I'm kinda sorry Mark, got to carried away. To tell you the truth I would like
to see more people using LEGO CAD programs, because then I could actually see
how peoples models are built, and learn something from it. I too, really don't
mind real photos, but do mind how it sometimes detracts from the model. Sorry
again, Mark, I at least now know your line of reasoning!

So you think I don't do that? I build all my models the same way as you, • except
that after I have built them IRL I make them in MLCAD. So you see, I put • twice
as much effort as you do in a model.

Not really. The creative effort that goes into the model is over once you
finish building it IRL. After that, you're merely copying your already-built
model. I'd rather spend that time building something else IRL.

Still, it's your time, do what you want with it.

And to say use LEGO CAD users "cheat" is silly, doesn't
TLG "cheat" when they make a model with new colours? It's not like
there is a standard palette of colours for LEGO, every year more new
colours come out!

Ok, so "cheat" wasn't a good word choice. At any rate, as above, it • takes
much of the challenge out of building.

No, it enhances the model, it makes the model more accurate to your • vision. I
mean what would you rather look at, a patchwork coloured mecha, or a • nicely
colour scemed one?

Of course I'd rather see once that's nicely colored.

I think you're under the impression that I'm trying to put down LCAD,
which I'm not. I think it's a great way to share your models, and build
things you couldn't ordinarily build. I'd still rather see photos of your
MOCs, however. It makes the experience more "real" IMHO.

BTW I think, I would rather see a nicely rendered LEGO model, than • see
a poorly shot LEGO model.

I'll take Real over Virtual any day.

Sure, if you like bad lighting, and ahem, BLURRY pictures.

Are you insinuating something?

Anyway, unless you are a Mac owner

I am, though I also have a PC.

(although isn't there a LEGO Cad program for
it too?)

It doesn't work very well.

anyone with a PC and a modem can download all the programs free of
charge and make good use of them. You see, with programs like • POV-Ray, the
playing field is leveled out, everyones models are presented the same • way,
while with cameras, a person with a digital camera has the advantage • over a
inexperienced camera owner.

Or someone who is using a digital camera that is old enough that the
focus depth can't be less than 3 feet? I had that problem with my last
batch of pictures. I had the misfortune of using a borrowed 2-year-old
Sony Mavica that just wouldn't focus up close. Please don't assume that
it's because of inexperience. I'm getting a new camera this week, so no
more blurry pics.

At any rate, I've done nothing more here than list my own, personal
reasons for not using LCAD. I'm not saying you're wrong for enjoying it,
I'm just telling you why -I- don't use it.

~Mark
