Hi Bill! Its good to hear a dissenting opinion, but Im not certain I agree and
heres why:

As a builder myself I have an issue with the concept of this group focusing on
the Japanese MECHA concept. In brief, I dont do designs of this type. I do
designs that would more likely be called MECHS. In reality I dont do Mechs
either, I do a variation of them called HERCs or Titans. I also do Flyers and
heavy armored vehicles, but I am concerned most about the walking type Hercs
or Titans.
|
The first mech I ever built was of the chicken walker variety, the second was an
ED-209 redub. I love mechs. Many folks around here love mechs. They are the
grittier, more fearsome, less polished versions of the mecha world and without
them we wouldnt have Mark Neumann around as a builder. :)
Any mechanical creation is suitible for this group, from
small motor controlled walkers,
animals,
Bionicle-inspired creations,
Transforming Mecha,
Power suits,
CAD models,
Big mechanical creations,
mythilogical creations,
themed builds,
superheroes,
limited parts builds,
mech bases, and probably a dozen
other types of creations I cant think of off the top of my head. All of these
models were archived in the sidebar
for quick reference so as to show the plethora of building styles weve got in
this group.

If this group adopts the focus of the Japanese Human like robot, then what is
to become of the rest? Mechs, Hercs, Moble suits (other than Gundums), those
that have four or more legs, and any others that dont fall into the basic
concopt that is being put forth as Mecha? It seems to me that this group
should be about inclusion not exclusion. I already feel excluded enough from
this group.
|
You shouldnt feel that way. Just because people dont post Hercs doesnt mean
we exclude them. Post them and Ill show you how quickly that WONT happen. Its
all about taking action rather than talking about how no action is being taken.
I know many of us have gone out of our way to find new, exciting builds to post
about-even when we didnt build them ourselves. Give me a link and Ill gladly
add it to the sidebar in some way, shape, or form.
.build.mecha is all about the growth of the group through building and finding
new creations to show off. When people post their inspirational sites they
visit, these get archived on the sidebar so that others may benefit. Its not a
perfect system, but it seems to work.
Currently, I am unable to build anything (no workspace or parts available until
June), so ANYTHING posted here is great to see as far as I am concerned. Post
your creations and Im certain youll get feedback.

I personally do not post my designs here for several reasons, mostly because i
have my own website of my work. It is a bit out of date because after my
father passed away my heart was no in it. But now I have jumped back in to
building. I also do not physically build designs, I use Ldraw and MLCAD to
design and construct them and then render them in 3D images. Which leads me to
another point about this group. It has, as a general rule, looked down on
people like myself that only do virtual modelling. This is also a reason I do
not post my work here.

I hope youll reconsider - I love to see this group grow.
