This is an excellent post. While I believe that LEGO is cool because you can build whatever you want, I think that for a long time most of the creations in .mecha aren’t even Mecha. They can be some cool creations but they don’t really push forward the ideas and culture of the real Japanese genre.

This is one of the main reasons I haven’t been more active in the group. Now to be sure, I *do not* consider most of the few Robriq I have made to be Mecha. Robriq for me is what I’m making as I try to learn how to build Mecha. Probably mostly cute Mecha, but you get the idea. So I’m not saying in any way that I’m a mecha builder,(I want to be) but I feel like I know what looks good.

Stuff like this:

Nakany’s stuff is so good that it makes me hurt. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=75811

IMO Stuart has perfectly nailed down the type of awesome MOCs that should be .mecha’s greatest strength. It’s MOCs of a similar quality that have driven .space along and it should be the same over here.

Again, very good post. Lots of cool things to think about.
