  State of .mecha

Hey all. I've been in contact with one of our old posters, one Stuart Immonen by name, and he gave me permission to post this message. I have not altered it except to clean up line-wrapping and spelling. Any errors should be assumed to be my own. (...) (20 years ago, 14-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: State of .mecha

(...) (snip) This is an excellent post. While I believe that LEGO is cool because you can build whatever you want, I think that for a long time most of the creations in .mecha aren't even Mecha. They can be some cool creations but they don't really (...) (20 years ago, 14-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: State of .mecha

(...) I'm going to head off a long and flame ridden argument by asking for clarification here. What, exactly, does this mean? (...) Doesn't Toshiro count? Soren (20 years ago, 14-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: State of .mecha

(...) Probably a good idea. I don't have any malice towards other styles. I love almost all LEGO building. What I mostly mean is that I think the content of the group should strive to meet the coolness that is its name: Mecha. I think this is the (...)   Re: State of .mecha

"Jon Palmer" <jon@zemi.net> wrote in message news:HxotGL.22Jw@lugnet.com... (...) I also read that as "Shiro". Heh. But whatever, Toshiro was pretty bad too. [ j o n ] (URL) (20 years ago, 14-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: State of .mecha

Hi. Today I came to correct information about one's copyright :) . (...) Above works were built by Toshiya; a member of Lego Robo Plan community, as always so ;-) . His folder in Shelf; (URL) ANIME of magic-girls-theme now on air in Japan; (URL) (...) (20 years ago, 16-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: State of .mecha

(...) Does anyone know what has become of Stuart? His Brickshelf gallery no longer exists and now he speaks distantly, as if he no longer belongs in our community. SNIP (...) This is a great idea. I myself built both Gla Gla's armature and the Pixie (...) (20 years ago, 17-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: State of .mecha

Stuart is incredibly busy right now, but every now and then we exchange email. The subject came up and I asked if I could post his thoughts on the matter. Soren (20 years ago, 17-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: State of .mecha

(...) I completely understand how busy life can get (on top of normal homework and sound tech I have two research papers due next week--ouch). Even if he doesn't have time to post he most likely could still take a minute to get his Brickshelf folder (...) (20 years ago, 19-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: State of .mecha

As a builder myself I have an issue with the concept of this group focusing on the Japanese "MECHA" concept. In brief, I dont do designs of this type. I do designs that would more likely be called MECHS. In reality I don't do Mechs either, I do a (...) (20 years ago, 20-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: State of .mecha

(...) Ah, so you are the one responsible for Bigs Herc bay? Excellent work! (...) Although i am certain that this group will always accept mecha/mechs in any form, i think that many who build lego mechanized walkers tend to go with mecha, which (...)   Re: State of .mecha - Its what WE make it

Hey cool! Its Biggs from the Herc Bay! Welcome! Although I must point out: This group shares in all Lego Robot Designs. Mechs, Mecha, Quads, Hexapods, Dropships, what ever. NOT just anime stuff, that would be exclusionary. I make my own kind of (...) (20 years ago, 20-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: State of .mecha

(...) Okay. Those are mecha too, welcome. Anyone who's told you otherwise is exceptionally ignorant. (...) (sarcasm) Yeah, because, y'know, we have no respect for Mladen's Mobile Platforms, or Mark Neumann's giant Mechs, or Karim's dragon. We just (...)   Re: State of .mecha

Hi Bill! It's good to hear a dissenting opinion, but I'm not certain I agree and here's why: (...) The first mech I ever built was of the chicken walker variety, the second was an ED-209 redub. I love mechs. Many folks around here love mechs. They (...) (20 years ago, 21-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Re: State of .mecha

I wanted to comment on this, but have been taking my time - mulling over what to say about it. Here we go: (...) Agreed. (...) I'm not certain what forces Stuart is referring to here. Last I checked, this group is very supportive of one another. (...) (20 years ago, 21-May-04, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: State of .mecha

I've been doing some research on .mecha and ran across this beautifully worded post from Stuart (via Soren). It seems to me that the .mecha group is at a sort of crossroads and thought this might kickstart some discussion as to the direction of the (...) (19 years ago, 29-Dec-05, to lugnet.build.mecha)
