Here's a little secret:

Put a small, narrow strip of Saran Wrap around each end of the black
friction pin. It'll work wonders for your mecha. You'll find that they can
support much more weight this way.

Enjoy.

I have dozens of the black friction pins and no dacta sets so they must
come in 'normal' sets somewhere.  however for me, even the black pins
only work on small mecha.

most of my 8+ inch models won't even stand using two friction pins a
joint.  While the friction pins do keep joints from flopping, in my
experiance there not near enough to hold up any good size model (using a
simple swinging joint).

(...) Use bits of LEGO paper (ie, the backing paper from stickers) instead of plastic wrap. This will give you a slightly stronger claim to 'LEGO purity'. Steve (24 years ago, 24-Jul-00, to lugnet.build.mecha)
