I noticed the same problem, so I switched from technic pins (light grey) to
technic pins with friction (black).  They have tiny grooves that make them
much tighter.  I don't know where to get them in mainstream Lego playsets,
as I got all of my friction pins with Lego Dacta educational sets (quite
good for technic parts, BTW).

I do use black ones, and they are still loose...
But, you're right, they're a lot bettter then the grey ones.
