My First Mech ... Please Critic

Dear lugnet.build.mecha, After reading about the (URL) Beesch> and particularly some of the response and encouragement I received (URL) here> I decided that I would give Mech building a try. Of course, the one particular item that amazed me the most (...) (20 years ago, 21-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.org.us.cedarlug, FTX)

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

(...) The drop bay is one continuous walk-through section. There's not a lot of space (a little over four studs in width), but would be plenty for a minifig dropmaster. I commented elsewhere that I ran out of creativity when it came to the interior. (...) (20 years ago, 21-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

(...) I think there's a parallel between building mechs and building cargo ships, because the inside (either the joint tech or the cargo space) dictates what you can do with the outside. Thanks for the comments, Mark, glad you liked it! (20 years ago, 21-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

(...) (Blush), thanks! And I agree with you about Mark's "Pioneer". I just checked his gallery again, and I think you could maybe park my "Aggressor" inside the cargo container. (...) I actually thought carefully about those white curved slopes. I (...) (20 years ago, 21-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

(...) The top turret was kind of a doodle that just turned out really well. (I shoulda showed you guys the turret that came in second place and got scrapped--yuck!) (...) I dunno about that. Looking at your Brickshelf folder, you've obviously got (...) (20 years ago, 21-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Johnny five IS alive - first MOC

Hi Stefan, I've seen bits and pieces of this as you've posted them to Brickshelf, but it's great the see Johnny in all his glory. I can't wait to see this completed. I hope that eventually you're able to post movies of him in action. Bruce (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.build.mecha)

Re: Johnny five IS alive - first MOC

(...) Perhaps switching to 2x plates instead of 4x for the tread surfaces would help - this would help to smooth the curve around the wheels, at the cost of almost doubling the number of hinges you would need to add. Otherwise, love this MOC. Great (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.technic)

Re: Johnny five IS alive - first MOC

(...) You might find that spreading the hinge plates wider on the tread shoes will help. Having them near the centre increases the "twisting" effect if there are forces near the edge of the shoes. Also, having 3 per shoe instead of 2 may help - mine (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.technic)

Re: Johnny five IS alive - first MOC

(...) Hi Mark Thanks for your feedback. Yes, treads are working, but moving is rather bumpy. Because of the construction of the treads and the huge overall weight they easily broke up. I'll give my best to make little movies and post it here. First (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.build.mecha)

Re: Johnny five IS alive - first MOC

(...) Hi Thank you for your feedback and for adding my post to .technic. Yes it's true, moving is pretty jerky and because of the huge overall weight the treads will broke up .relatively often. Maybe I'll think about another kind of treads but I'll (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.technic)

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

Hey man. Cool ship. Gotta question though. Is the drop bay one continous walk through section or 3 walled off individual ones? I can't tell by the pictures. I noticed some people think the suits are too small for the bays but it seems spacious (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

(...) The cargo bay turned out to be a little more spacious than those power suits required. I'm kicking around the idea of building a trio of bigger mechs that fill the space. I'm glad you liked it, Dan. I hope that cap ship you previewed is coming (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

(...) I'm glad you enjoyed the dropship, Scott. I assume that it would fly around by means of a point-source graviton generator, so it wouldn't need vectored thrust or aerodynamic lift (they're not engines, they're generators of some kind). Given (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

(...) I know what you mean about trying to finish that dropship. My first attempt at this one was completely scrapped and I started over. I know what you mean about the size of the missile boxes too. I finished them and realized they were way too (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

Re: Johnny five IS alive - first MOC

Hi Steven I remember seeing this a while back and thinking it wasn't even Lego, until I looked closer, woof. Woof, woof. And not only is it a great model but then you roboticized it as well. Cool. I can't wait to see when your done. This will be (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

(...) <snip> (...) I think it's righteous. It's hard to make something like this that doesn't look blah. You did a good job creating the look of a functional and not boring to look at, drop ship. Right on man. The colors didn't desturb me, I always (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Johnny five IS alive - first MOC

Johnny five IS alive - first MOC

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

Kyle, I like the color scheme, the lifting doors, the weapons array, and the engine are neat, but I've got a few issues, and they have nothing to do with your building style or how it looks--it's more of a few technical/physics/science-based (...)   Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

Wow, Kyle. That's rather amazing. I'd have to say my favorite part would be the top gun turret. I've always been partial to Mladen's square barrel. I do agree with Daniel that it needs more front boosters. But, then again, who am I to talk? I can't (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: "Aggressor", power armor dropship

Stop talking about my thrusters, Kyle, I'm sensitive about that ;) Although there have been only a handlful of mecha-style dropships this is clearly one of the best.
