  New Technic Supercar 8448

As far as I was aware (according to TLG) the new Technic Supercar 8448 was not due to be available until September 1999. But I got this set yesterday - 1st August - and have started building!! Can anyone tell me if this is a first or it is already (...) (25 years ago, 2-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: New Technic Supercar 8448

(...) Cool! Can you give some details as to how the front suspension works? Is there any specialized parts which achieve the independent front suspension and steering, or cunning use of old ones? Fredrik (25 years ago, 2-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: New Technic Supercar 8448

It's not widely available, but when I asked this morning, S@H had a decent supply of them, they came in not too long ago. Now I gotta sell off a 5571 so that I can buy an 8448 (unless of course someone is willing to trade me an 8448 for a 5571). (...) (25 years ago, 2-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)

(...) Hi Mark, The blue car you referenced is a custom model. I think the Artist simply used the pictures of the new super car as reference and the Pneumatics is his own addition. Neat application of the concept. : ) cheers! John (25 years ago, 3-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)

(...) It _says_ 'hydraulic' in many places, but it's really a pneumatic cylinder/plunger with a spring. Compressing, the plungers' valve opens all the way; releasing, airflow is restricted and slow the expansion of the spring. -gbr (25 years ago, 4-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)

This discussion of the 8880 and 8448 Super Cars has been great. I don't own either yet, and find it difficult to decide between buying the older 8880 at auction or the 8448 new. For those familiar with both, if you had choose between one or the (...) (25 years ago, 7-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)

Hands down, I'd get the 8880. Simply because before too long, you will ONLY be able to get them at auction, and prices will skyrocket even more than they occasionally do. You can buy the 8448 for a least the next year. Get an 8880 from DYA now, and (...) (25 years ago, 7-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)

Actually, the day I ordered, it came out to $85 each. Unfortunately, shipping on 2 of them and a few small Paradisa sets was near $70! Still, at $115 brand new including shipping, it beats getting them at auction. Since I already have 2, 1 for each (...) (25 years ago, 7-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)
