LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Chris Dee
The 2011-01 LDraw parts update has been now been released. This update includes 904 files in the core library, including 486 new parts. A further 4 parts have been redeveloped by authors who have affirmed the Contributor Agreement, replacing files (...) (13 years ago, 25-Jul-11, to lugnet.announce, lugnet.cad) !!

(...) --snip-- (...) Excellent work, Chris. Thanks for keeping the updates coming. Tim (13 years ago, 26-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Philippe Hurbain
(...) Thanks, Chris! another awesome release! Maybe shoud be announced (URL) here> too? Philo (13 years ago, 26-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Chris Dee
(...) Thanks. It has been announced on the LDraw.org home page. Does it really need to be in the Forum too? It's not really a topic for discussion. Or do we want to move all announcements from the LDraw.org home page to the Forum (now this is a (...) (13 years ago, 26-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Timothy Gould
--snip-- (...) Given that we are transitioning over (eg. the website now points to the new forums) rather than duplicating I'd say that the dedicted forum is the right place and a comment at LUGNET should be considered secondary. Tim (13 years ago, 27-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Chris Dee
(...) My question (which was snipped) wasn't about LUGNET vs. the new LDraw forum. "It has been announced on the LDraw.org home page. Does it really need to be in the (LDraw discussion) Forum too?" Are you suggesting that we stop making (...) (13 years ago, 27-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Timothy Gould
(...) Ahhh, sorry, I misunderstood. I think the LDraw website should definitely be the main place to make the main announcement. But if you're going to announce it in a forum as well I'd say the LDraw forum would be the best place. We've already got (...) (13 years ago, 27-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Paul Sinasohn
First, thanks for all the work to get this update out to us! Please continue to announce it on LUGNET. I don't get to the LDRAW website / forums at all, and want to remain apprised of new parts. Is there a possibility of an automated email update (...) (13 years ago, 27-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Timothy Gould
(...) If you're interested in LDraw you should get to the forums. The aim is to shift as much conversation there as possible. It is the 'official' place for discussion. Tim (13 years ago, 27-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Jacob Sparre Andersen
(...) What is the name of the NNTP server for the forums? Play well, Jacob (13 years ago, 5-Aug-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Timothy Gould
(...) I'm afraid we are prioritising new users over those from the 1980s. What with it being 2011 and all it seemed the right time ;) Tim (13 years ago, 6-Aug-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Martin James
I have a question about this latest parts update. Many of the new parts have file names longer than 8 characters, and none of them will load into MLCad. They just throw up "file not found" errors. (This is MLCad 3.30.) Is there something I need to (...) (13 years ago, 6-Aug-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Jacob Sparre Andersen
(...) NNTP is simply a more efficient protocol than HTTP for forums. I can't see the point in wasting time on web interfaces to forums, when NNTP is so much more efficient - and allows me to pick a user interface I like. Play well, Jacob (13 years ago, 6-Aug-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Anders Isaksson
(...) Yes, why stay with obsolete methods that are 300-3000% more efficient for reading text messages, why stay with 'one click reads everything' when we can use the much more modern 'upmty-eleven clicks may find everything but you will probably (...)          Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Timothy Gould
(...) Personally I have no problem with NNTP and would happily stick with it. Unfortunately most of the internet will not. So our choices (as I see them) are as follows: 1) Stick with LUGNET with NNTP but suffer a lack of new users who either can't (...) (13 years ago, 6-Aug-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Tore Eriksson
(...) I do share your frustration, but if the new, slower and much more inefficient way to navigate through the forum threads really will attract new users, I will not stand in its way. I'll give it some time and hope for improvements that will (...) (13 years ago, 7-Aug-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Orion Pobursky
(...) Here's the deal: When I created the new forum and announced the change, I knew there would be some people who didn't like it. Change is hard, I acknowledge that. But we were driving away new blood for the sake of the old hats. Yes I like NNTP (...) (13 years ago, 7-Aug-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Anders Isaksson
(...) Yeah, sorry, I'm already registered at the new forum. My reaction was mainly against Tim's tone - as if 'modern' is the only working way. For some reason he raises my hackles quite often... I'm well used to web forums, but I still prefer NNTP (...) (13 years ago, 7-Aug-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Timothy Gould
(...) --snip-- Sorry about raising your hackles. This one was meant to be a jokey tone but rereading it I see it's not so much. Particularly since I tend to take a strong tone in my arguments in general. Tim (13 years ago, 7-Aug-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Eduardo Vazquez Harte
(...) Great work just missing panel 1 x 4 x 3 with hollow Studs with mail logo for set LL6651. (13 years ago, 26-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Chris Dee
(...) <SNIP> (...) Does it really use the hollow studs version of 4215? I've just created: (URL) (13 years ago, 26-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Eduardo Vazquez Harte
(...) Sorry they aren't hollow they are solid I used hollowed ones in the mpd for an unknown reason. As for these 2 parts they are unofficial ? (13 years ago, 27-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available —Allen Smith
(...) Thank you, Chris, and to all those whose hard work made these parts a reality. Allen (13 years ago, 26-Jul-11, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

4180d.dat (was: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available) —Tore Eriksson
   (...) Great work! Just one little problem, can't see that anybody else has signaled for: Part 4180d.dat 0 ~Moved to x996 0 Name: 4180d.dat - - - (snip) - - - 1 16 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 996.dat It says Moved to x996, but points to 996.dat without (...)         Re: 4180d.dat (was: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available) —Chris Dee
(...) I'll fix this in the next release, but I'd expect any software to inline the contents of the file rather than process the "~Moved to" line. Chris (13 years ago, 15-Aug-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: 4180d.dat (was: LDraw.org 2011-01 Parts Update Now Available) —Tore Eriksson
(...) Yes, that's a blatant bug in my little utility program MovedTo.exe, since it doesn't relay any re-orientation if it's been made. /Tore (13 years ago, 15-Aug-11, to lugnet.cad)
