I'm afraid we are prioritising new users over those from the 1980s.
What with it being 2011 and all it seemed the right time ;)

Yes, why stay with obsolete methods that are 300-3000% more efficient for
reading text messages, why stay with 'one click reads everything' when we
can use the much more modern 'upmty-eleven clicks may find everything but
you will probably never know for sure', why use 'get it all and read at your
leisure' when we can have 'get one and hope you can find your way to the
next and the internet connection will stay up for your next click'?

Personally I have no problem with NNTP and would happily stick with it.
Unfortunately most of the internet will not.

So our choices (as I see them) are as follows:
1) Stick with LUGNET with NNTP but suffer a lack of new users who either can't
sign up (as has been discussed elsewhere) or won't bother. But satisfy a few
people.
2) Create a new NNTP server where we can ensure new users can sign up but where
most won't bother.Probably satisfy no-one.
3) Create a web forum where new users can and will sign up (and already have).
Not satisfy a few people.

Given the lack of new blood here on LUGNET and the appearance of new blood in
the new forums I think option 3) was the correct one. Quite frankly I think
prioritising new users over a {few} users who don't like the new system (for
good reasons but not great ones) is valid.

There's been more action in the new forums than there's been on LUGNET for a
long time. In my opinion that totally justifies it all.

Tim
