Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

(...) <snip> (...) Quite right (assuming the resolution is too poor to distinguish the "Lego" printed on each stud ;-). Someone who uses Lego *bricks*, and identifies them only as "plastic building blocks" or something of the sort would probably be (...)   Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

(...) ...did not NECESSARILY sign... (...) True, true. Not in and of themselves. But we don't *know* what contract was signed, exactly. Were I LEGO(r), I would put a clause in any contract, after the concentration camp incident, that gave me control (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

They may have provided materials, but the creators did not sign a contract stating they would not distribute it because of this. I hate to argue this point too finely, but providing the materials has nothign to do with the copyright of the words or (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

Actually, I would say it's much, much different. I think a better analogy would be that if you bought Play-doh and made an animated film, certainly Fischer-Price (or whoever makes PLay-Doh) would not have the right to suppress your film. There is (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation, lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

(...) I think Lego is more upset that he is trying to make a profit with the film. I saw nowhere that he said that Lego told him he could *not* make the film, just that he could not put it out to make a profit out of it quote from the other site: (...)   Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

(...) Those words remind me of an episode of _The Young Ones_ where Alexei Sayle's character picks up a can of Coke, saying, "Ah...Coca-Cola...symbol of the free West!" He drinks the Coke, starts freaking out, and then runs around with a hatchet (...) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

(...) Ah, but no one here has bought the Lego trademark, only ABS. As an analogy, I could buy a case of Sprite, but if I made a movie wherein a character visibily drank from cans of Sprite, the Coca-Cola company could be within its rights to sue me (...)   Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

(...) That is good logic. There's a flip side to that logic, however: LEGO markets a kit that has really bad equipment and will allow the purchaser to make really sub-bush-league films. It probably rankles them to see someone making a good-quality (...) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation, lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

A company cannot control what you do with a product after you've bought it. Once you own the product, it's yours to do with as you please. They especially have no say in this as they've marketed sets for the creation of these types of things. They (...) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation, lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

(...) Well, as TLC provided materials, then they can stop this particular film. If someone were to use thier own Lego pieces there is nothing legally TLC could do so long as thier Logos are not used. This is at least true in the US. I am not a (...) (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

(...) Nope, it was One: A Space Odyssey. Two different films done by two different people. I think that LEGO is way overstepping its bounds on this one...especially if they want to foster goodwill with the fan community. -Tim (24 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?
