Re: Why these news groups were created

(...) LUGNET is a free, mostly self-regulating community of FOL's, primarily of the A- variety, but with a few T- and K- types thrown in as well. Putting stricter systems in place to restrict and censor the tone of conversation in so-called (...) (22 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.admin.suggestions, FTX)

Re: Why these news groups were created

(...) Your whole argument seems to revolve around the idea that LUGNET will now have, or already has, inappropriate "adult content" in the NG. If that is the case, that's a violation of the TOS: (do not) Post or transmit any unlawful, threatening, (...) (22 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

I've had time to read and reread and reread this post and I'd like to add a few comments further, if I may. "Teddy Welsh" <ewelsh@wsc.ma.edu> wrote in message news:I40H0H.1yKv@lugnet.com... (...)   Re: spam blocking

(...) Yes Todd - but the problem was that the spamblocks were not always in the domain name, and did nothing to stop spam for those with 'catch-all' email accounts. But it looks like you fixed the problem from your other post, so I guess it does not (...) (22 years ago, 22-Sep-04, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: spam blocking

  Re: spam blocking

(...) Actually, the spamblocks you see in the web interface are added on-the-fly when the page is shown to you. If you click "reload" several times, you'll see several different spamblocks. --Todd (22 years ago, 21-Sep-04, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: Top stories threshold

(...) AFAIK, the spotlight is calculated once an hour. That saves the server a lot of processing each time someone hits the front page (which is usually a major part of any site's traffic). But since that makes the spotlight "static" content, it (...) (22 years ago, 21-Sep-04, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: Top stories threshold

(...) I believe in the past, Todd has explained that the spotlight on the *front* page of LUGNET cannot easily reflect someone's personal filter settings, since that page is actually a flat HTML page that gets refreshed every few minutes (saves some (...)   Re: skip-filter

(...) Todd, Perhaps it would be a good idea to have the skip-filter defaults set to skip .off-topic, .people, and .loc, since, as you say above, "The 'LEGO-ness' of [these groups] is somewhat gray". Then people would always be free to opt in to such (...) (22 years ago, 21-Sep-04, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: spam blocking

(...) Actually I jsut figured out that changing my email will not really do anything as my posts with the old email addy will still show the old email addy. Maybe a fix would be to force the anti-spam on both sides of the '@'? Mark (22 years ago, 21-Sep-04, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: Top stories threshold

(...) Hey, thanks for the explanation. Do you think it would be wise to give some automatic points to lugnet.build? I only say this because so many people (myslef included, really) say they would rather see MOCs in the top stories list rather than (...) (22 years ago, 21-Sep-04, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)

  Re: Top stories threshold

(...) Correct. Crossweighted by age, so that newer items are generally preferred over older items. You'll see something climb up the list as more and more people spotlight it, then fall as it ages.   Re: Top stories threshold
