    Skip Filter borked? —Larry Pieniazek
I went here (URL) wanted to change my filter from +lugnet to -.loc. +.loc.us +.loc.uk +.loc.ca which seems a reasonable and legitimate setting. I have acceptance of cookies enabled. Pressing the submit button puts the entry box to +lugnet with no (...) (24 years ago, 5-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Skip Filter borked? —Todd Lehman
(...) Had you previously walked off the end of the group by clicking the link in the light blue band at the top? If so, it's correct behavior for your browser to show that URL to you in purple/read. (Not very smart behavior on the part of the (...) (24 years ago, 5-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Skip Filter borked? —James Brown
(...) Interesting. I fed it your string above, and didn't take when I updated. - it returned me to my old filter (-.loc. +.loc.ca -lugnet.cad -lugnet.robotics). I tried +lugnet, and it accepted it. I re-entered my old string, and it accepted it. (...) (24 years ago, 5-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) <mucho snippage> (...) Odd. After reading your other post, I went back and it accepted this time. A temporary glitch? I'm using IE4.0, if it helps to know.          Re: Skip Filter borked? —Todd Lehman
(...) Wow, that is wicked bizarre. Unless your browser is being sent the wrong cookie somehow (I doubt it!) it sounds like a horrible browser bug. It would help me know what cookie your browser thinks it's being sent. For example, if I type in (...) (24 years ago, 5-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Skip Filter borked? —Kevin Salm
(...) I do not know for sure if Todd has set up the syntax to work without the prefix lugnet before a specific heirarchy or group in the filter, but my filter has worked each time I have changed it. I have included the prefix lugnet for all groups (...) (24 years ago, 6-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) What cookie text does your browser say is being sent to it? (It should show you in a confirmation dialog if you have the confirm-cookies option enabled.) --Todd (24 years ago, 5-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Skip Filter borked? —Larry Pieniazek
(...) For this string: -.loc. +.loc.us +.loc.ca +.loc.uk from within NS I get: NEWSGROUPFILTER=-.lo...%2B.loc.uk However, the water is muddy because I have both IE and NS running at the same time (my mem just got boosted to 320M so I can do that, (...)          Re: Skip Filter borked? —Todd Lehman
(...) OK, looks correct. (...) You have two differently branded browsers running which share the same cookie jar? (Or am I misunderstanding?) I always thought that MSIE and NN had totally separate cookies and couldn't interfere with each other. (...) (24 years ago, 5-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Skip Filter borked? —Larry Pieniazek
(...) No. At least not that I know of. (...) I think so. Plus I poorly worded. Mostly it was ME that was confused. Let's review the steps (independent of any browser). I go to the skip setting page. your server asks my browser for a cookie. if it (...) (24 years ago, 6-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Almost -- the default value is actually -.off-topic. -.admin. but that's most likely not relevant to the problem you're seeing. (...) Bizarre.          Re: Skip Filter borked? —Todd Lehman
(...) Hmm, probably not, but I'm not sure how browsers interpret the "only to the originating server" phrase... A browser -could- (and I would think should) remember that a ".foo.bar" cookie came from "www.foo.bar" if it was going to place (...) (24 years ago, 7-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
