Ok, but AFAIK there aren't any lug newsgroups right now.  There should
at least be newsgroups for LUGs and LTCs made under the appropriate
heirarchy.

lugnet.org.us.gmltc
lugnet.org.us.gmlug
lugnet.org.us.nelug
lugnet.org.us.wamalug

etc...

Agreed... IF the groups want them. PNLTC at one point I think was asked
and declined. A wrinkle, though... There's the current lugnet.trains.org
already in existence. would a putative bayltc (bayltc is just forming,
and may or may not remain affiliated with baylug) newsgroup go under
org.us.bayltc, org.us.baylug.bayltc, trains.org.bayltc, or somewhere
else?

I know when this first came up I said that I would love one for NELUG and I
still do.  For now crossposting and the mailing-list work but a NELUG group
would help consolidate things and it would not clutter all of the .loc groups
with NELUG posts and they can go back to being used for local news.

As far as the subgroups go you bring up a good point.  I could see NELUG
possibly needing a org.us.nelug.ma, org.us.nelug.ct, etc. in the future
although at present it is not necessary but groups like NELUG and GMLUG that
cover wide geographic areas may need some breakdown so that regional meetings
can be discussed.

For sub themed groups like org.us.baylug.bayltc I don't know though.  Thats a
tough call and one I don't have an idea on how to handle.  I also think it
could get very messy.  I know the major themes withing NELUG are
Mindstorms/Robitics, Star Wars, and Castle probably in that order.  I don't
think we need separate newsgroups subordinate to each of the "lug" groups to
handle that though.  It would be to much.

We may need a (if you'll pardon the expression) a re-ORG (ouch, but I
had to do it) of the group hierarchy. or maybe not.

Ouch is right!  I like the current lugnet.org.us.**lug hierarchy and it is set
up well to handle the groups.  I guess where it gets messy is when you start
talking about lugnet.trains.org.**ltc.  Is that where the train clubs would
rather be or should they move over to lugnet.org.us.**ltc so that all groups
are in the same hierarchy.  I don't really have a feel for it but I am sure
Todd has some ideas.

(...) It's a bit of a pity, because although that structure allows you to have the NELUG base /org/us/nelug/ to contain all the individual group messages, it begins to start looking a little bit messy, especially when you have /org/us/nelug/ma/bos/ (...)
