Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

(...) I would think that making the weightings available to the public would lead to temptation to abuse the system. IMO. For all I know, though, the entire LUGNET community is 100% Grade A honest. Anyway, my 2. -Vince (20 years ago, 1-Jan-05, to lugnet.admin.general, FTX)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

(...) I don't know. Good question. I think you could argue that both ways, but probably it's a good idea. (...) Putting some regularization into the process seems a good idea to me, so ya, there should be. Up till now it has been ad hoc though, I (...) (20 years ago, 1-Jan-05, to lugnet.admin.general, FTX)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

(...) A couple of questions: Will these weightings be made available on a page somewhere so everyone can see them anytime? Is there a policy in place to regularly look at these weightings and make adjustments if deemed necessary? Thanks ROSCO (20 years ago, 1-Jan-05, to lugnet.admin.general, FTX)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

(...) Mark, I wish you (and others) wouldn't go deleting quotes included for context. I've re-inserted the sentence you removed above, with I assumed to mean you wanted to see posts in .lego and .color, which is the context in which I posted my (...)   Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

(...) Well ya, thats kinda easy to figure out ;) I never said anything about how this was stopping that process. I know its not, I also know that is not what my post was about in any way. (...) This is kinda more on my point - but still not 100%. (...) (20 years ago, 1-Jan-05, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

(...) Mark (and everyone), if you have specific groups you want to see please go to those groups and read them. The spotlight feature is ONLY to choose what gets put on the front page and other "top stories" pages. It is NOT intended to replace your (...) (20 years ago, 31-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

(...) Where you said yourself "what we believe" - that tells me you do not know, but are guessing on what you believe to be true. And I know full well the spotlight weighting has been going on for some time and gets changed. I do pay attention (...) (20 years ago, 31-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

(...) Although I admittedly would still rather see the weights go down to just +2 for .announce.*, and leave off .announce.moc, .lego, and .color from the list all together, I just had another code-change-necessary thought for weighting... How about (...) (20 years ago, 31-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

(...) Why do you think we're guessing? The spotlight function has had weighting for some time. Periodically, that weighting gets adjusted. This was one of those times. (...) We consider and evaluate everyone's opinions, and will include that one, (...) (20 years ago, 31-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

NYCLUG group -- Can it be created?

Dear Admins: We're relatively new, small but significant, like set 6011. We've done a build event at Enfield. We've held several meetings. Any chance we could get our own group? Thanks much, onedaycnn (sid) (URL) (20 years ago, 30-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

(...) -snip- (...) I would think you could figure that out by what they actually DO highlight. Why would you need to try to guess? I WANT to see .color and .lego and if they have to do an uphill battle thats not good IMHO. Seeing posts that have got (...) (20 years ago, 30-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

(...) Whoops. Thank you for discovering this. They were in fact completely out-of-sync. I forgot that the news pages use a newer piece of code, different from the old code that the main homepage uses. --Todd (20 years ago, 29-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Change my FLAG, please!

(...) Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way to do this at the moment. (There ought to be, obviously.) I went in and changed it manually. You're now listed as being in the state of Virginia. (...) That would be helpful. If you could send it to me as (...) (20 years ago, 29-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX

Huh... Does the weighting on the front page of LUGNET vs. the News page change for spotlights as well? I noticed this last night, and right now I'm seeing: Main Page: 1. LUGNET Posting Policy Update 2. LEGO-decorated Christmas Tree 3. Bullfrog: My (...) (20 years ago, 28-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Change my FLAG, please!

Dear LUGNET Transition Team (or the person in charge of flags around here), I recently moved from Georgia to Vrginia and the Flag under my membership account has not changed. How does one change this? Also, the current flag present is the old (...) (20 years ago, 28-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: LUGNET Posting Policy Update

(...) Sure, np - I wasn't trying to second-guess, just to guess what it was actually set to, since news-by-mail doesn't reflect that, and I wasn't feeling adventerous enough to look up the msg itself on the server. (I'm trying to guess where the FUT was supposed to be - .admin.general?) (...) I think this is a good idea (not just the accoutnability, but the whole suspension bit).   LUGNET Posting Policy Update

LUGNET administration has always had the ability to temporarily or permanently suspend the posting privileges of a user or member. In the past this has been only very rarely used. The mechanism for doing so was such that only Todd (or for a time, (...) (20 years ago, 28-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.admin.terms, lugnet.announce, lugnet.general, FTX) !!

(...) Well, yeah. (...) To be honest, I don't think there should be one either, but essentially that's what the system is doing right now anyway.
