In lugnet.admin.database, Larry Pieniazek writes:

- Set up a hotmail (yahoo, or whatever... a peeron account works fine too)
account to receive the db update/change/addition requests.
- Give the password to the mail account to all the db admins
- create the form
- put the url to the form on the admin.db front page
- when people submit changes, they get mailed to the hotmail account
- when admins have time to work on changes, they log into the account and as
they work items, they can remove them from the inbox and file them in a
different folder (this works best if it's an online folder system like yahoo
mail offers) like "changeCompleted", "rejected", "needsInfo" etc.

But if I follow this correctly, the only "link" to submitting info
to the Guide will be on this page:
http://news.lugnet.com/admin/database/

To me that still falls into the category of "out-of-the-way".  I
don't imagine the majority of LUGNET users venture into the .admin
heirarchy, so they'd never know it to exist (whether this majority
of LUGNET users would even submit data to the Guide in the first place
is another issue altogether).  I think a functionality like that
described above, front-ended by an access point on all Guide pages
(or in the Guide "header") would be more productive.  Otherwise
I think we would end up with an improved system in place, but one
which few people know about/ remember/ use.

Granted, it requires modification to LUGNET pages.  But that's
been done before.  Given how well LUGNET seems to be designed,
I would hazard to guess that it requires modifying just one
source document template.  Once activated, all future Guide
queries will display with the new button/link.

So it's just down to getting that page change implemented.
Perhaps the same opportunity could be used to pull down / update
the BrickWise shopping report, which has been in a coma for many
moons now.  Uh-oh, there's the dreaded Change Of Project
Scope(tm).  That's gotta be an architect's rule, too  ;]

(...) True, but... (...) Phase 2! In phase one, hang it where I suggested because it means NO, ZIP, NADA, ZERO change to LUGNET code. Let the heavy users start using it and work the bugs out and if it looks good, THEN lobby to get the template (...) (23 years ago, 26-Jul-01, to lugnet.admin.database)

(...) Hm, I got it. In fact the following proposal, assuming there is a curator named for the admin.db group so they can edit FTX, requires NO programming or changes within LUGNET at all! - Set up a hotmail (yahoo, or whatever... a peeron account (...)
