Since this list consists predominantly of sets from the last 20 years, I would
add a few others that I think people would have loved, had they been old enought
to enjoy them (from the 60's and 70's). Here's my own top 7 list of older sets:
1) 725/810 (1960-68, UK, European, and Samsonite versions) The 1960's Town
Plan - pure delight - this set has a 310 Esso Station (streamlined Art Deco
style) as part of it. Lots of specialty parts (for a 1960's set), and a large
cardboard street layout (8 city blocks) that has great roadway detail.
2) 396 - Thatcher Perkins (1975-76) model kit - those that own this set
absolutely love it.
3) 325 - Shell Station (1966-70) - UNIQUE!!! (Europe only)
4) 384/760 - London Bus (1975-76) - the best parts pack set I've ever seen.
And the model is great too!
5) 717 - Junior Constructor (1961-64 - 2 types) - the biggest house model set
LEGO ever sold (North America only)..
6) 277 - (1977-78) - Homemaker Fireplace set - it's small, but packed full of
rare parts.
7) 343 - (1968-69) Train Ferry - a really interesting set, one of the earliest
Train System sets.
