Re: Sets which "break the rules"

There is one other set that breaks the rules, the Soccer Stadium starter pack from England, which had a 5 digit number. I still have the invoice somewhere which shows this number, but am currently unable to find it. All of the other sets had had the (...) (26 years ago, 7-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

On Thu, 7 Jan 1999 11:25:30 GMT, Todd Lehman uttered the following profundities... (...) Adventurers being the main theme, Desert Adventures as the 1st, Jungle Adventures as the 2nd. (...) All of the pre-ninja castle sets are Euro-centric type (...) (26 years ago, 7-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

(...) This is an attribute of availability, just as (US only), or (Shell Stations in Holland) or (Worldwide) are. It has nothing to do with the subject matter of the model. So I would not like to see the categorization muddied up with it. I suspect (...) (26 years ago, 7-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

(...) But given that 2188 is available only on ferries, doesn't that count for something? Its not a ferry per se, but in some way it is related to 'ferry', taking 'ferry' to be a generic term for a group of co-promoting companies. (...) To my mind, (...)   Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

(...) Right -- but fuzzy categories don't necessarily have to add up to 100%. Something like the 1548 Ferry would probably go in as 100% "Stena Line", 100% "ferry" (which could be a sub-category of something associating it with boats), and some (...) (...) :-) (...) I know you said you made this up for the sake of an example, but Nik and I got in a row about this last night so I thought I'd share. I have to credit him for making me scan all the sets and their figs. There don't actually seem to (...) (26 years ago, 7-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Fuzzy categories: The death of black & white

If someone had the whole line of exploriens and U.F.O's built and had them side by side and then gave someone this set to put into one or the other, I (...)   Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

Some initial thoughts in promotional sets in my lunchbreak... Categorising promotional sets will as you suggest be frought with difficulties. That's why I went for the 'keyword' method of categorising them in my database, which can be a type of set (...) (26 years ago, 7-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Fuzzy categories: The death of black & white

[Crossposted to lugnet.admin.database & lugnet.general, with followups set to lugnet.admin.database] * Is LEGO set 1843 (a '96 Space/Castle value pack) actually a value pack containing two sets? Or is it one set with instructions to build two (...) (26 years ago, 7-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database, lugnet.general)

Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

OK, so here's my whole spiel on themes... This is a medium-term planning thing (1-3 months) and a background task while other stuff goes on. I don't expect we'll have the new theme tree completely worked out before the end of January or Februrary. (...) (26 years ago, 7-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

  Official and Unofficial theme categories

I'm going to post a list here and then -- because the list is so long -- make comments on it as a follow-up article. --Todd ___...___ The following is a snapshot of the theme-categories currently in use in at: (URL) Adventurers Aquazone Castle (...)   Sets which "break the rules"

What is a set? - a bunch of pieces, and - a building instruction booklet, and - a box (or bucket or polybag)? The following are transcripts of notes taken last summer when mulling over the question of how to data-model sets and value packs. (...) (26 years ago, 7-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Classification of Promo sets on Pause

(...) That classification doesn't work anymore. TLG is coming out with new themes that don't fit under the big four; Aquazone was the first of these. And besides the theme classifications, there has always been Basic/Freestyle and 'unclassified'. To (...) (26 years ago, 4-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Classification of Promo sets on Pause

Re: Classification of Promo sets on Pause

(...) I agree 100% that the current classifications are inconsistent, but I disagree that 1590 and 2140 should be under the one label of Promotional.
