Hopefully there is no
restriction in place limiting LEGO to just Duplo presentation.

This line in my original email may be unclear.

It is my hope that the licensing contract Lego signed with the Thomas owners
(Britt Alcroft?) does not limit LEGO to producing Thomas sets only in Duplo
scale.

I would like to see 9V System Thomas sets plus trackside structures. Yes, I
know there are many, many excellent MOC's, etc out there. I can build my own
with LEGO. And the Duplo sets make it even easier to integrate the facial
elements.

But I think System scale sets would be a great addition to the line and a
tremendous sales booster as well.

Some may think licensing in general is bad for LEGO. It is the frequent
target in financial news reports about LEGO. But I can't see a downside for
Thomas in 9V System scale.

Now you could argue against it from the Thomas point of view. LEGO Thomas
sets in any size are yet another implementation of the popular Tank Engine.
You can purchase Thomas sets from Learning Curve (wooden), ERTL (die-cast)
and Target Stores (plastic). I believe Lionel also has the license.

So there are a lot of Thomas toys running around.

I'm surprised there has not been more discussion about the Thomas license.

DUPLO Thomas shots

There is a considerable amount of DUPLO track in my house. And I'm sure my
10 month old daughter will enjoy running Thomas on the track.

So when will Thomas make it to a SYSTEM scale set? I cannot see LEGO • paying
for the license and not promoting it in the 9V range. Hopefully there is • no
restriction in place limiting LEGO to just Duplo presentation.

Duh! I forgot what I think is pretty big news. The Thomas rumours are • true.
He'll be along later this year. In Duplo, but still... hope LEGO didn't • have to
pay through the nose.
