| | | | | | | | | | | | | Nelson,
This is great stuff. It definitely does not disappoint. Your attention to
detail is especially commendable. I really like the way the 4 vigs combine to
create a single bulding that also seems to conform to the classic space
guidelines. is this so? Either way, you get props. i also like the rising
suns logo, oh, and rice rocket R - very cheeky name. Not to sound overly
anglophonic, but this is brilliant. -D

Thanks for the props! In building Yamanes apartment, my goal was to make a
small, confined quarters aboard some larger Jade Empire ship (or building),
therefore I made the entrance similar to a moonbase module door. The people of
Japan are masters at storage and maximizing their living space, and I tried to
carry that into this MOC, as well as some of their traditional household decor.
I havent seen too many MOCs of .space residences or homes, but the color scheme
of the JE easily lent itself to the cold metal walls.

Riii-iight, because, you know, Japanese Science Fiction and Human Genetalia have
nothing in common.
Sorry Jim, but if you didnt want this to go in that direction, you should have
just left it alone.

Very cool all around.
The weapons bay door that entirely blocks the pilots view is a bit
questionable, but you cant have everything, eh? I love the hidden weapons on
both ships.
Great detailing on the probe as well. All of the models are quite cool.
The story was great- my only complaint there is the nasty aliasing in and around
the text boxes. You need a better graphics editor. In any case, I cant wait
for the next installment!
And its wonderful to see something tasteful posted here. Thank you.

Well, the HUD inside would still give the pilot his view. :)
My intent on the Jin Dui was to use the hidden guns when the ship was at a dead
stop, but the story kept moving!!

Yes I do...thats why this was my first attempt at a story! :) I do not have
much experience with photoshop, and so yes, it could be a lot better. Guess I
need to do some research on the Net.
Thanks for the comments and feedback! Glad you liked it!

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Hi there semi-lurker here. Good show, great MOCs. You are helping restore my
faith in this News Group :).
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Nice models and nice storyboard. I think it might take you a while to tell the
complete saga! We need to know how his father died, why he is fed up with the
direction the Jade Empire is taking, and most importantly, how is he going to
save them from themselves?
I like the way the ship gets converted (did they file of the serial numbers?!),
just one thing tho, I find the term 'rice rocket' a bit offensive, although I
understand it is in pretty common use in the US?

Thanks for the story ideas! I hope that Ill see someone else try a MOC using
this faction. BTW, I based the colors for Rising Suns on the PCS subtheme,
but changed the blue accents to dark red/red. There are smoke windows; greys and
black for greebling, etc.
The MOC is the Rice Racer R (not rice rocket), and it was the first MOC I
built for what eventually became this whole story.
My intent was not to offend in any way. I came up with the idea for the R as
part of the Great Asteroid contest at CS. My original storyline was of a
Japanese guy who was known throughout Space as a playboy, but who was also a
secret superhero who was HQed inside an asteroid. The asteroid was going to be
huge, with a complete Techno-Japan interior bachelor pad. (Alas, time was not on
my side!)
Anyway, as part of that storyline, I thought of what type of craft would a dude
like this own? It was just natural to include some elements of the cars that we
sometimes see on the road today. There are, however, some other elements from my
original idea in the R which I did not feature, such as the fact that the
cockpit actually seats 2 minifigs - the other seat was for the ladies! ;)

Whoops, I apologise for getting the name of the ship wrong when I referred to it
earlier. I should clarify that it was indeed the Weapon R reference from
modern import tuning that gave the name its clever twist, regardless of weather
it was rice racer or rice rocket. In addition, I must say that here in NYC,
I hear the term employed freely by Asian American Motor Enthusiasts, moreso as a
proud self-reference than as a remark of derogation.

D.

It did NOT disappoint, Nelson. Cool stuff! Great comic with some dramatic
tension and everything. The Jin Jui really fits the Jadist theme and I liked the
refitted version of it. They have a similar shape but both are clearly
different, that was truly consistent with the story. But the best part of the
new theme is the emblem: very cool.
Keep up the good work!
Love, Sylvi
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Nice story. Im curious to see the style of other craft of the Rising Suns.
The idea of converting one ship into another is neat, and though I think the
original started out a little too sports-car-ish, it made for a nice conversion
that clearly retained elements of the original ship without the fighter and the
racer being too alike.
Also really liked Uncle Yamanes residence, and the vignette style that allowed
for numerous photo angles. That really added to the story. The details there
and in the garage are excellent.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Hey Nelson,
Cool story and even cooler ship transformation! Great lighting on the
close-ups, and great angles for such small spaces. I also liked how you
mixed scale with your photoshopping. Yours is one the best garagy-lookin'
garages I've seen in many moons. That's what leads me to my only suggestion
for future installments: put the voice bubble in an empty space whenever
possible.
For example, pic 21:
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Y-Bros-K/Space/Rising-Suns/21.jpg
is a great panorama of your groovy garage decor, but part of it is covered
up by Shinzo's dialogue. You could move the voice bubble down and to the
left over the tan baseplate area (which is just empty space), then we could
get an even better look at the design of the garage!
Your set dressing is great, so flaunt it!

Thanks, Dave! Admittedly, I was rather in a rush to get my story uploaded.
