Rick & All,

I can work on it, I know some HTML...

Indeed, as do I. We need a host first, then we can lay out the page.

I'll have a host next week. But first...

Everyone knows HTML. Or has a page editor that knows HTML. We can't all write
it, we don't have the organization in place to do it by committee, and we won't
all get what we want.

I've offered to arrange free hosting. I'll soon have to expend effort and the
good will of friends to get it. Before I do so I need to make the following
things clear...

1) I will be the only one with write access to the site, so the home page,
links page, events page, etc. will be maintained by me.

2) I'd be happy to take suggestions on what should appear on the site, and I'd
even take completed HTML if it's better than mine, but if I'm hosting it it
will follow these rules...

a) No tacky stuff (e.g. bad formatting, animated GIFs, huge or unnecessary
graphics, cookies, javascript, etc.)
b) Clean HTML (i.e. it must be human-readable, well-formatted and contain no
extraneous garbage - some HTML editors make a mess of the code)
c) No advertising, except for links to LEGO-related stuff (e.g. Lugnet,
lego.com, etc.)

3) Each member will have a page for personal info, links, an optional picture
or likeness, etc.  This information will be gathered by a web form and the page
will be automatically generated, kinda like Lugnet's member info pages. This
automation will take time, so initially the web form will email the info to me
and I'll generate the page. If you like writing HTML you can email me your
complete page, or give me a link to it.

4) Each member *might* have a michlug.org email address that will forward to
your own email address, subject to these restrictions...

a) You can not send email from michlug.org, but you can receive forwarded email
from there.
b) If your ISP allows, you can use your michlug.org address as your return
address in email.
c) You can not subscribe to mailing lists using your michlug.org address, or do
anything else that is high-volume. It is up to you to ensure your address is
not spammed to death. I will post guidelines on how to accomplish that.
d) Email received at your michlug.org address that isn't specifically addressed
to you in the 'To' or Cc' fields (e.g. most spam), and large attachments (e.g.
graphics) will be discarded rather than forwarded.
e) Michlug.org email addresses may be deactivated at any time for any reason.
Michlug.org will not be a service provider, and therefore will not have the
resources to deal with email hassles. Therefore...
f) It is recommeded you use your michlug.org email address only for
non-critical and non-personal stuff. Like lugnet newsgroup posting.
g) No smut, harrassment, spam or fraud through your michlug.org address.
h) Automated monitoring of these rules may flag email that I need to look at,
so your michlug.org email address is by no means private. See (f), above. BTW,
your ISP does this, too.
i) In short, handling email can be a huge pain, so it may not get done, and if
it does, it may be rescinded at any time. Don't abuse it.

5) We'll have 100M of space, which is way more than we'll need for our pages,
so we'll be able to store event photos there. But MOC photos should still be
stored off-site (e.g. brickshelf).

These are the rules, if I'm going to do the hosting. If this is unacceptable,
please tell me before I set it up. The beauty of having the domain registration
handled by someone else (Scott Sanburn) is that someone else has veto power
over what I do. If you don't like the site I create, Scott can change the name
servers on the registration and ZAP - it now points somewhere else, under
someone else's control.

Amy this all sounds pretty good.CWLeach
