(First of all, I hope Ive set this to the proper newsgroups. Ive never
announced a project Ive worked on before. So apologies in advance if Ive
posted to the wrong area!)
Ive had this idea for a few years. But I finally got around to building it.
Its an automated LEGO Duck-Building robot. The robot is a 2-axis cartesian
gantry which picks and assembles the 3 parts needed to build a LEGO Duck:
Here are some more general photos.
Small videoclip:

(But I dont think this works)
The robot is programmed in NQC and has a capacity of 6 d/min (ducks per minute).
I will have it on display at this weekends rtlToronto18 competition in Toronto,
Ontario.

Jesus Christ, I don't even have the file. :) Iain, send me the file and I'll
host it up on the Peach.

Nice! Id like to make a pneumatic auto-building robot that uses only air power
and no RCX.
Perhaps you could dress up your robot as a large mother duck! Is it possible to
make the RCX Quack too?

Iain, that is PURE GENIUS..... amazing.... can't wait to see it on saturday
I would have never thought it could be THIS simple, yet work so well...
And completely following my favorite engineering principle: KISS :)
Great job!

You could have also included announce.moc if you wanted to but none of the ones
you selected are wrong in my view, FWIW.

Glad you did!. It rocks. Spotlighted. Thanks for sharing. Wish I could see it
this weekend but Ill still be in Singapore. Will you consider keeping it
together long enough to bring to BrickFest?

Great robot.
How are the parts pushed forward after the robot picks one up?

The entire machine is mounted on an angle, so the next part in the magazine
slides down to take the place of the one removed.

What is the name of the piston-like looking part(s) that pick up and stamp the
DuckPro. I cant identify it.

Iain used the large shock absorber and designed an axle/slide end-of-arm-tool
that was really neat! Basically the axles kept the EOAT from moving around
while being pressed down. Maybe theres some pictures sonewhere.
The whole assembly was a joy to watch

Hi Mitchell,
I think the part you're refering to is this:
http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/3959
"Minifig Accessory Torch"
I got the idea from the guys (whos name escapes me, I'm really sorry) who
put together this huuuuuge, 7 metre long car assembly system in Germany I
think. They were using this same idea to pick bricks, so I gave it a shot
and was happy with it. :) The reason I did it, is becuase you can very
securley "lock" the "torch" to other bricks, and it won't pull out. I guess
it's not so big a deal on this project because the duck is twisted off,
anyway.

You know, I typed in "Space Gun" and it didn't come up. I went to the 6990
Monorail, to find it. :)
