Hi,
I gave the exclusivity to RailBrick to announce the release of BlueBrick my new
Lego Train Layout Editor but of course I'm very excited about receiving your
comments, suggestions or bug report. I'm also open to any proposition of
contribution.
Please don't hesitate to post here or send me by email your thought.
PS: I want to appologize to all the linux and Mac users, but C# and .Net
Framework is so powerfull that it becomes very easy to make good software very
quickly. I won't be able to do the same work in the same amount of time with a
cross-platform C++ language. I'm not specially a big fan of Microsoft, but I
have to say that their development environment are amazing...

It sounds very promising from what I have read in RailBrick.
I have not tried BlueBrick, yet (I currently have the .Net framework 1.x on my
system, and I'm only gonna upgrade to 2.0 if I really need to).
Does BlueBrick also support the track layout with 4.5V and 12V blue track? (Yes,
those users still exist!).

Yes of course. BlueBrick is compatible with Track Designer.
But actually, the picture of the 4.5V and 12V tracks come from a zoomed
screenshot of Track Designer, so they are not very nice. I hope someone will
find nicer pictures for these parts.

I just have tried your new prog and I have so far only some comments:
1) It would be nice to have a zoom possibility.
2) I tried the blue rails and the export to ldr surprises me. There is only one
rail instead of 2 and the plates are missing and the rails to not fit to each
other.
Otherwise a good attempt to bring such an application to an updated version.

Hi,
I’ve just release a new version of my BlueBrick software. The new release fix
some small bugs and issues reported by the early adopters, but also contains
some new features that were on my todo list:
- NEW FEATURE (Jeramy): Add shortcuts to add bricks. In fact I added a full panel in global option to configure the shortcut
- NEW FEATURE (Jeramy): Implement A*, to select the shortest way between two connected part choosen by the user
- NEW FEATURE (Alban): duplicate bricks with ALT+drag
- NEW FEATURE (Alban): Add and save a Z coord in the BBM file for improving the compatibility with LDRAW
- NEW FEATURE (Alban): Add a “Deselect All” function in both the Edit menu and contextual menu (with CTRL+D shortcut)
- NEW FEATURE (Alban): Add “Select All” and “Select Path” in contextual menu
- NEW FEATURE (Alban): A status bar to display the description of the parts and to handle a progress bar used for save/load
- NEW FEATURE (Alban): Splash screen!
- NEW FEATURE (Bart): Dutch language support
One important feature is the add of the height coordinate, so now you can go
back and forth between BlueBrick and LDRAW software without loosing information.
Also the “duplicate with mouse” feature improve a lot the productivity in
BlueBrick.
This new release also contains some more picture in the part library, including
not all but a lot of Logos from various LUG/LTC.

Note: If you have installed the previous version of BlueBrick, of course you

You already have this feature since the first release.
Use the mouse wheel, or alternatively if you don't use a mouse with a wheel or
if you use a touch pad, you can use "CTRL+SHIT+left mouse click+mouse move".
To pan the view, you can use "mouse wheel click+mouse move" or alternatively
"ALT+SHIT+left mouse click+mouse move"

Yes, that's true, it's a bug.
I'll try to fix it in a future release.

Hi Michael,
I’ve just released a new version of BlueBrick that fix the problem for the 4.5V
and 12V rails. But you will need to upload some unofficial LDraw parts from the
LDRAW.org part tracker, especially the new shortcuts created by Philo for the
4.5V straight and curve.
This release also contains a first implementation for saving in TrackDesigner
(*.TDL) format. There are still some bugs (related to the polarity and the
slopes) but globally the layout seems ok.

Thought you might be interested to see a non-lego application for BlueBrick.
I made a parts library for O-gauge Lionel Fastrack. Despite converting between
studs, pixels, and inches, it all seemed to work out.
The part graphics were generated with Blender. If I can ever get around to it,
I hope to upgrade the graphics for the Lego pieces in BlueBrick in a similar
fashion.

For all Linux and Mac users you can try to work on this to run with MONO
(www.mono-project.com). My LDCalc already runs under MONO as I do not call much
files. I am still working on my other tools also to run under MONO, but I have
to learn a little bit about LINUX to find all possible problems.

Got around to it sooner than I thought. They don’t match the style you’re used
to of course, but they should prove prettier to look at than the current
graphics. I do have both switches for blue and gray, just not shown.
You can grab the images here once moderated, just drop into your “Rail” folder
and have it replace the files as necessary.

Oh very nice Stefan, I just saw your post now, after I published a new version.
If you don’t mind I will look forward to integrate them in a new release,
because I think they are even better than the one I did from the new LDRAW part
created by Alex Taylor.
And also very impressive the part library you did with non Lego parts.
Especially because there is not so much documentation on the XML files to
describe the connexion points (except few comments I put in the XML files).
Unfortunatly I don’t have time right now to make a tutorial to explain how to
create new parts and the meaning of each parameters in the XML files. I prefer
to focus on fixing bugs and adding new features requested by the users.

I got few feedback from someone who try to run it under Mono 2.0 on linux.
According to him it seems quite ok, BUT the drag'n'drop of parts from the part
library to the map seems not working under Mono. A very annoying bug that I will
try to fix if I succeed to debug it under Mono for the Windows platform.
So far I never tested myself under Mono, so I don't know what are the actual
problem. If you want to give it a try, I would be please to have your feedback.

I’ve just released the version 1.3 of BlueBrick. This version fix some minor
bugs, and complete the full compatibility with LDRAW thanks to the last missing
LDRAW parts created by Alex Taylor. I really want to thank him for this amazing
job!
The new release also include 3 new languages: German, Spanish and Portuguese.

After a very many hours of tweaking over the weekend BlueBrick version 1.5 is
now available to the masses. This revision focused on the first (but definitely
not last), extension of the parts library, and improving the help features.
