I have slid the door open and close several dozen times. You have to be a
little gentle, but not extrodinarily, in my opinion.
Notice how the yellow 1x1x1 brick with side stud connects to the blue plate of
the "door": via a black 1x2 plate. This black 1x2 plate is attached to the
blue "door" plate by insertion into the "holes" on the underside of the blue
plate. It has been my experience that "studs into holes" (creating a 1/2 stud
offset) can be a more firm connection than (the normal way of) "studs into the
area between holes". And, in this application, it seems to be the case.
The gray 2x4 plate that connects the yellow 1x1x1 bricks with side stud seem to
help reinforce the "sticking power" onto the blue "door" plate, as well.
The weakest part of the "door" may be the red 1x2 thin wall attachment. But,
that doesn't fall off because it doesn't seem to get levered very much. Also,
the lower red 1x2 thin wall piece is held in a grove made between the inside of
the outer wall and the interior studs on the floor of the wagon baseplate.
Your final assestment would certainly be your construction of this concept.
Please, feel free to build it. I'd love to hear what you and anyone else might
have to say about its build quality and survivability.
And, I'd love to see further improvements, refinements, and alternatives.
