Mike-

I commend you on an excellent model!  Building regular GPs will seem tiny by
comparison;-)

Using scale models from which to model is an excellent idea.  I got razzed by the
GMLTC for buying an HO GP50 dummy to model from ('course, they razz me about most
everything;-)  It really helps, though.  What I have found that works even better
is the book _Diesel Locomotives_ compiled by Bob Hayden.  It is a cyclopedia (vol
2, the first volume is "Steam Locomotives") put out by Model Railroader
Magazine.  All it is is HO schematics of every US loco wheel config made (up to
the SD40-2 circa '72)  They are *THE* definitive books published specifically for
those who want to model proto engines.  I would recommend to everyone who wants
to build MOCs in LEGO to get them.  They sell for about $22 a piece and are soft
back.  They are also *very* informative and will increase your knowledge base
about train engines immensely.

Rock on, Mike{:^D

It is 8 x 76 studs, has 2 Four Axle trucks and uses 2 motors.  It can go
around the tightest curves and pass through complex sets of points, as long as
the yellow switch arms are not there.  The actual unit is as long as the 4563
I just got the other day.

I still need to add 5 more fans, but I ran low on parts for them.  Does
anybody know if the 4x4 turntable was ever made in gray? If so, where can I
find them.  (I will need 8 of them, or 3 in black if not available in gray.

I have 2-3 different ways to make the railing, so I have held off on putting
it on until I can determine the best looking way.

Let me know what you think.

PS:  For those of you who will say that 8 wide is too big, this is the largest
diesel loco ever made and in 6 wide would still need to be 57 studs long.

(...) Hardly, the real protoheads subscribe to Extra 2200 S, _the_ diesel spotters mag. They came up with the version labels that are often used with engines (eg, a F7 Ver VI or such...) covering the details. The Cyclopedias are however exelent (...) (24 years ago, 21-Feb-00, to lugnet.trains)
