Thanks for the comments. Yes, Larry, I was so excited that I forgot to put
the link up, but you were very correct in figuring it was here:

The tighter curve has put a lot of restrictions on me. Although the loops I
have running right now are tight, I will be converting to interspersed
curve/straight sections for making corners around the modular layout [1].
This loco will be the benchmark for testing all of my track. If this
monster can make it through, I am fairly safe with anything we will see
coming down the line, with the possible exception of some monster steamers.
Of course, this makes the roundhouse a LOT bigger project.
I have been happy with the proportions in almost every aspect. Getting the
right kind of detailing in the right spot has been a challenge, and function
takes precedence over form, so a few items had to be left off to allow this
beast to successfully pull cars.
My biggest hope with this model is that I can impress the locals enough to
get them to trust me with their HO cars. Being able to borrow an actual
model is immensely helpful in getting things to look right. When I go back
on Thursday, I will return the DD40 to its rightful owner (after taking some
close-ups for my notes and future detailing upgrades) and see if I can
borrow some other rolling stock I would like to make. I still need to get a
lot of different freight cars.

[1] Assuming that the BayLTC sets interspersed curves as the deFacto
standard for out modular layouts. This is one of the major issues that the
module standards has to settle. Tighter radius curves make it VERY
difficult to have long/wide cars and I am hoping that everyone sees the
benefits of bigger curves on the modules. If your track can run any size
train, then it is easy to upgrade to 8 wide rolling stock.

| Mike, Nice work, a bit big don't you think? Anyway, I was actually writing about the curve straight-track corners. I set up curved-straight track corners once. I was trying to enlarge the radius to cut down on high speed derailing, but what I found (...) (25 years ago, 23-Feb-00, to lugnet.trains)

| Hmm, I think you are little ahead of your time. Perhaps in another five years when LEGO releases larger radius track, you'll be on to something. Building to scale should be as much about functionality as well as meeting exact scaling. But I leave (...) (25 years ago, 20-Feb-00, to lugnet.trains)
