I mentioned this in a sub-thread (?) but I thought I would reply
to this message because, well, it seemed to fit.

I want to clarify that I called Lego Customer Relations
at 800-453-4677 and they agreed to send me a replacement motor
by mail as soon as they got my check for $23.

I don't know if this only applies to people in the US, or if they
limit you to one motor only, and I don't really care at this point,
as I only want to make the thing a toy again at the moment.

I have not yet received the motor, and I have not yet inventoried
the rest of "our" set for other missing/broken parts.
