Hi Lar,
I usually attach the 2x2 wire plate to the motor, bend the wire down
towards the track and then bend the wire back up towards the cab. The
wire then goes through a 1x2 hole in the floor and to the motor and
lights in the cab. That loop of wire creates enough slack to allow the
train motor to pivot, and so far that wire loop had not caused any
problems while running. I ran these engines for hours at a couple NELUG
shows, so were not just talking about twice around the track (which is a
more typical test run for me:).
Oh, by the way, I did say "motor in the cab". I added motors and
lights to my GP-30 and my SD40-2. The motors turn the fans (four on the
GP and 5 and the SD40-2) and the lights light the cab. The SD40-2
actually has two lights, one for the cab and one for the headlight. No
pictures or movies yet, but maybe once classes settle down I take a few
action shots.
