I think you know the prototypes have been made in the former USSR and are
known under two nicknames: Ludmilla and Taigatrommel (=Taiga-Drum)
because of the very noisy (and dirty) diesels...

Since the German reunion with the merge of DR and DB these seam to be
spread all over Germany as I just have read - some are even rent to the
Netherlands railway.

Anton tells me that this type of loc rolls by his locale. He has told me he
certainly favours the electric trains. Know I know why! Dirty diesels at his
door step.

| (...) But electric engines lack a soul... Besides, compared to the old Dutch classes 2200 and 2400 Ludmilla isn't too bad. One of them recently came through my town while the main line Amersfoort-Apeldoorn was closed , see (URL) for some shots. (21 years ago, 14-Aug-03, to lugnet.trains)
