hi Larry,

nice to read, that the Desert Express still is in mind of some AFOLs on the
web. I build the loco as close to the real picture which is also in the
gallery. I have no idea, if it's an american loco. The Desert Express operates
in Namibia, south west of Africa. No idea, if the build their own locos
or were able to get some old americans?

They probably almost certainly did not build them. Building diesels is non
trivial. That loco just LOOKS North American to me, it well could be an
export model. I want to say it looked Alcoish but I could be wrong.

The first pictures where published on brickshelf just a week before X-Mas, I
started building it a year ago when I got back my LEGO from Dark Age storage.

And a great first project it was!

BTW: The an exact copy for the Namibian train company is ready and I just need
to sort out two weeks of holiday to deliver it **personally** lo Namibia.
Transnamib invited my on a trip down to Namibia and on the real Desert >Express.

No WAY! They're giving you a trip? (Airfare and all??? Even just the train
part of the trip is cool though) That is SO COOL. Now where's the info on
the South African Blue Train I was thinking of modeling?? GRIN.

So they contacted you then, or you contacted them? I'm hoping Skyline will
do something neat with the kit I sent them... but that was me contacting
them of course.

Hopefully that will all happen in March 2002, and there WILL be a great website
afterwards, I promise!

Regards,

HoMa
