MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Shaun Sullivan
I just posted pictures of my German 1930s/40s BR52 Steam Locomotive on Brickshelf. It was my first serious train undertaking: (URL) interesting points: - it's minifig scale[1], which makes the engine 41 studs long - I arrived at this length by (...)         Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Not bad. Not bad at all. Very nice indeed, actually. Is this pre or postwar? If prewar I can see it figuring in some Brikwars action nicely. ++Lar (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —James Powell
(...) 52 is the Kriegslok, the war built engines. 50 was the pre war 2-10-0's, made with more sophsticated metals. Incidentally, a class 52 is the 2nd most advanced loco running around right now, as modified by Sulzer/SLM/DLM. The first is DoG of (...) (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Shaun Sullivan
Hi Larry/James, You hit the nail on the head, Larry ... although the short term goal was to have this ready for the trainshow, I did select it specifically on the basis of continuing work on it later. I intend to build two or three more cars for (...) (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Harvey Henkelman
(...) This engine is a super job well done. I have a couple spare 9V train motors on sale if you need them (email me for details). As for the prototype BR52? This was known as the 'Kriegslok', or 'War Emergency Engine'. Built on the direct orders of (...) (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Holger Matthes
Hi Shaun, FANTASTIC model you have build out of our favorite bricks! And thanks for the describtion in your posting! The quality of first ever build serious MOCs is getting better and better!          Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Shaun Sullivan
Hi Holger, Thanks for your comments. I'll try and describe the linkage mechanism a bit better, referring to this picture: (URL) of the wheels are attached to technic axles. This was accomplished by attaching large grey pulley wheels on the inside (...) (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Reinhard "Ben" Beneke
(...) [Snip] (...) Great job Shaun! Your engine is one of the train MOC highlighs for this year. And a missing motor is no problem at all in my eyes: you could place it under any car. Leg Godt! Ben (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Christopher Masi
(...) You know your in for a treat when you see a thumbnail and you wonder if the thumbnail is LEGO or a model train being shown for comparison. Nicely done. I haven't had a chance to look at the technical details, but I like all the bumps and (...) (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Bob Hayes
(...) <snip> (...) Shaun, Very nice. Your attention to detail makes for a wonderful model. Nice clear photos. Question - do know if the engine can negotiate switches? The rest of the models in your gallery are also first rate. Bob (23 years ago, 26-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Shaun Sullivan
(...) Hmm, good question. Actually, I don't know - I only have a couple pieces of borrowed track right now, not even enough to make a full loop. I will be able to tell you after the NELUG train show this weekend though. -s (23 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Jason J. Railton
(...) Sean - just want to say, _fantastic_ engine. You can't even tell it's Lego from the thumbnails! The working linkages on a flexible wheelbase are just amazing. But why a German steam train? Did you just have a lot of black bricks around? What's (...) (23 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Shaun Sullivan
(...) Thanks, Jason. I picked the German steam train to fit in with the motif of my other models, primarily, as I tend to lean towards utilitarian workhorse designs. Political ramifications aside, the German industrial boom of the 1930s produced (...) (23 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)

(...) I'm still building in minifig-stylee 6-wide, but it becomes obvious that these trains are smaller than a true minifig scale when you put someone in the cabin.          Re: MOC: BR52 Steam Locomotive —Jason J. Railton
(...) Sorry, "Shaun's". Anyway, why am I helping this guy? I almost went mad trying to do a decent AT-AT thanks to Mr. Sullivan's models, and now he's doing trains! Shaun, can't you get into Belville or something instead? :) Jason J Railton (23 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)

(...) That's an awesome rendition of the Kriegslok! To bad I can't build like that, my V188 doesn't come close in the level of detail that his BR52 displays. But then again, not many diesels do anyway. -Harvey (23 years ago, 27-Apr-01, to lugnet.trains)
