  Re: NMRA 2000 Successful

(...) From Roger Rothhaar and myself, thanks for the compliment! :-) It was a lot of fun to build. -Tom McD. (24 years ago, 9-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf, lugnet.org.us.baylug)

  Re: NMRA 2000 Successful

Wow, great stuff. I liked everything, but I also must add that I LOVED your diner. Every once and a while when I see a model I exclaim "I wish I had thought of that!" So, now I'll just have to be inspired by it. I am definately going to build one. (...) (24 years ago, 9-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf, lugnet.org.us.baylug)

  Re: NMRA 2000 Successful

Thank you, James. Your station was obviously an influence on mine and when I add to the interior, I am sure the similarities will be more obvious. In fact, I was about 80% done with a replica of your station when I decided that I was more into (...) (24 years ago, 9-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf, lugnet.org.us.baylug)

  Re: NMRA 2000 Successful

Wonderful pictures. I was especially attracted to the incredibly large white and glass train station! (URL) certainly dwarfs my station of a similar design. Amazing piece count of pieces that I consider somewhat "rare". I hope I catch future (...) (24 years ago, 8-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf, lugnet.org.us.baylug)

  Re: MTW Wishlist

I'd like to see the model that uses the Naboo Fighter glass for a double deck car. I've used 1/4 curved "Paradisia" windows for an observation car match to my 7740. (URL) tried a few designs for double deck commuter. Indeed, this one looks (...) (24 years ago, 8-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: A real live working LEGO Shelf railway...

Great work, it really looks nice. If you find that it is too noisy, you might look into the cork subroadbed that is advertized in the model railroading magazines. I am pretty sure there is one 6 inches wide. Michel Magnan (...) (24 years ago, 8-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.org.us.nelug, lugnet.fun.crafts)

  Re: Self-Centering extended coupler

Yes, I am concerned that the slack action could result in a high failure rate, especially if there is not a strong structure at the end of the car to help keep the coupler attached to the car. Thanks for the kudos. The design occurred to me when I (...) (24 years ago, 8-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: NMRA show (the first of many?)

(...) I think at the last GATS show we asked for and received $400. (Some shows also have competition between the layouts, with prize money for the winners.) We asked for the money guaranteed, and were still eligible for the prize money. Other shows (...) (24 years ago, 8-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf, lugnet.org.us, lugnet.trains.org)

Re: NMRA show (the first of many?)

(...) 1000 is definitely way too much, at this point. I think GMLTC typically looked for some amount that would cover the expenses (gas, budget lodging if it was a long way away from MSP, etc.)... 100 seems reasonable, maybe a bit more. I'd ask GATS (...) (24 years ago, 8-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf, lugnet.org.us, lugnet.trains.org)

RE: NMRA show (the first of many?)

How much is a reasonable amount? $100 $1000? It would be nice if we looked more formal with skirt, large banner sign, maybe roped off build area. Use fee to buy skirt, etc? Mark (...) (24 years ago, 8-Aug-00, to lugnet.loc.us.ca.sf, lugnet.org.us, lugnet.trains.org)

  Re: Yellow 4.5 volt motor

It came from a Universal Set from the 70's. I had one in the 404, I think, but I am going from memory. I believe that there may have been another set with the motor in yellow, but I don't know which one that would be. Mike Peter Simpson (...) (24 years ago, 8-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Self-Centering extended coupler

Very nice design. No springs either! I will definitely try it. The slack action, as you mentioned, is a concern, but kudos to the design that allows you to push and still have the coupler pivot. In case anyone's wondering... This auction ended at $305!!! "sobafett" ended up the "winner." i got in touch with the second-highest bidder--at $295--who now knows better than to overbid. I let him know that we weren't being a bunch of obnoxious (...) (24 years ago, 8-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains)

  Self-Centering extended coupler

This came up a couple of days ago, but I finally came up with a design for a coupler that (1) is not connected to the trucks, (2) pivots to allow the cars to negotiate the curves, (3) centers itself when the car is being pushed, and (4) pivots to (...) (24 years ago, 8-Aug-00, to lugnet.trains)
