Modularisation I think has to be the way forward, so that a small set can
function perfectly on its own, but when combined with a larger set provides
enhanced playability. Designing sub-ranges that link together like the
examples you site (including the modular shops and offices, and modular
emergency buildings) would make collecting certain sub-themes more
interesting and desirable. Here's the best example of a cool modularisation
building that I've thought of:
Hospital:
Operation Theatre:
This would be a set with figs in surgeons' greens and complete with funny
hats. A variety of fighand-held tools would come with it as well as banks
of monitors. This set would be quite small but would come in a room.
Ward:
A slightly larger set that would have three beds with associated
paraphenalia such as monitors, flowers in a vase, nurse station (nurse
minifigs?!).
GP's Surgery:
This would be two rooms; the GP's surgery and the receptionist's area.
When linked together, the GP's Surgery would form the main entrance and the
ward and operating theatre would come off it to provide a complete hospital
range. Tie-ins with this product line would include an ambulance, a
paramedic on a motorbike and a ambulance-chopper.
As always, LMKWYT

| You know with the Lego Group, they'll always churn out an emergency type set out every year in the town theme. That is a given...Fire Fighter's HQ and lift truck (circa 2000) were the last sets out in the "emergency sub-theme"... its probably time (...) (24 years ago, 22-Jan-01, to lugnet.town)
