Well, I've sometimes used the flexible "tubing" that's used as sheathing for
the flex system stuff - shove it through the hole in the pin (it's a snug fit)
and (purists & non-modification pundits beware) cut off the extra so it doesn't
stick out the end. Works nicely. You can probably find other tubing that's the
right diameter if you don't want to chop your Lego.
I've also found its a good way of removing friction pins from old sets which
have become "stuck" in their holes. Stick the other end in another beam, insert
the flex in that end only, and it holds tight so it's easier to remove from the
"stuck" beam.
