Purists will wretch, but I've found that running a #4-40 screw through the
center and securing it with 2washers, a lockwasher, & a nut works *VERY*
well...
Flame me if you must, but it's better than breaking precious LEGO(R) parts

| Well, I've tried putting paper into the peg several different ways to try to make it stiffer, but the paper loosens up after awhile... Some joints just don't have room (functionaly or estheticaly) for anything but a simple friction peg, but they (...) (24 years ago, 17-May-01, to lugnet.technic)
