Re: What is with the Technic Stormtrooper?

Hey! Don't insult Cylons like that! ~Mark (25 years ago, 26-Oct-00, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.technic)

  Re: best source of yellow?

Re: What is with the Technic Stormtrooper?

(...) I think TLC is just trying to milk the contract with Lucas for all it's worth and I think they have found the Technic line a bit of a hard fit, which I bet they didn't expect. I am a hugh SW fan but none of this Technic SW stuff has interested (...) (25 years ago, 26-Oct-00, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.technic)

Re: What is with the Technic Stormtrooper?

(...) !!!! I think you may have missed Todd's point. Anyway, I finally put my finger on what really bugs me about these atrocities, thanks to that picture... they look more like (everyone's favorite Stormtrooper ripoff) *Cylons* than Stormtroopers. (...) Man, you guys are tough critics! I'm no SW expert, but I don't think it really looks *that* bad. Here's a frame from SW:Ep4 for comparison -- (URL) (25 years ago, 26-Oct-00, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.technic)

  Re: best source of yellow?

It heard rumours that it may have been a licensing issue with the folks that own the rights to the "Indy" name (I forget the group's formal name, but it's the owners of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway... I heard that Lego didn't realize that the (...) (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.technic)

  Good parts packs

That's essentially how I see them. The Stormtrooper will be a great source of white Technic parts and C3P-0 has some interesting gold parts and gold decorated tiles. I don't find either design very appealing. Threepio works a little better because (...) (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.technic)

Re: What is with the Technic Stormtrooper?

(...) My wife suprised me with the Pit Droid last Valentine's Day, and while I really like it for sentimental reasons, I've done just about nothing with the parts. I like to think of myself as "old school" in regards to Technic, but I'm sure that (...) (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.technic)

Re: What is with the Technic Stormtrooper?

I'm sure no LEGO designers believe that an ordinary car has a body which is only outlined by (...) (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.technic)

  Re: best source of yellow?

(...) It has two small decorative panels. By the way: I don't know a set with yellow, large decorative panels. Do you? (...) Yes, I think that too. Eelco Kooiker (URL) (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: What is with the Technic Stormtrooper?

(...) I'm not impressed with the designs either, but what does interest me is that there appears to be a new kind of Throwbot compatible piece in those sets. Look closely at the elbows and wrists of the stormtrooper. I'm guessing that its a Slizer (...) (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.technic, lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: best source of yellow?

(...) The 8457 Power Puller also has a good selection of these but I don't think that it comes with any decorative panels. It does have many of the other things you are looking for though. You could also try to get hold of an 8445 Indy Storm set; (...) (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: what is the rarest technic set & part?

(...) I think it's probably one of those short-length gear racks which has two lobes attached on one side (sorry if this sounds confusing). As far as I know, the only set to come with this element was the 8858 Rebel Wrecker, where it was used for (...) (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: What is with the Technic Stormtrooper?

(...) I don't get it either. It definitely is ugly, and I agree, I wouldn't have been able to guess what it was if a third-grader showed me and made me guess. Heheh...sorry, just had to get that in there :-) The free sets I got, with the exception of one, were all very small anyway (the $5-$15 USD ones). (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: What is with the Technic Stormtrooper?

(...) Boy oh boy, you called that right, and C3PO's not much better. I'm surprised they made it past the QC department. I think a cooler set would have been a full-scale bust or helmet offered as a special model, like The Statue of Liberty or the (...) (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.technic)

What is with the Technic Stormtrooper?

This has to be one of the ugliest things I have seen! If they didn't tell me what it was I would have never guessed it was a Stormtrooper.   what is the rarest technic set & part?

Can anyone tell me what the rarest technic (not expert builder) set & part would be? I would imagine that one of the rarest parts would be something like the 2 8880 transmission pieces or that fancy propellor from the yellow airplane. (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Feedback on the Airtech Claw Rig (8868)

(...) Yep, I'm pretty sick over that one. I found one for US$250, but it's from Europe, so shipping will be long and expensive... - Sean (25 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Feedback on the Airtech Claw Rig (8868)

(...) Wow...that's pretty awesome. I had a similar thing happen to me an year ago when my cousin lost his interest in Lego and gave me a bunch of his things. It's especially great to get a relatively expensive and/or discontinued one in this way. (25 years ago, 24-Oct-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Feedback on the Airtech Claw Rig (8868)

(...) The new style with metal coating on the piston might rust, but otherwise I don't think there should be a problem. They should have designed the pieces to allow children/adults to blow through the systems with a lot of salive as result. But (...) (25 years ago, 24-Oct-00, to lugnet.technic)
