As an aside...while there is obviously some competition between StarWars LEGO
and
StarWars action figures I wonder how significant it is. I have never bought a
StarWars action figure, but I have bought a bunch of the LEGO StarWars stuff.
A
friend who has been a stars nut for a long time has only purchased an X-Wing,
a
Tie/Y-wing combo, and a Speeder Bike set. He puchased a room full of action
figures during the same time period.

I've been a Star Wars fan as long as I can remember.  When the new Power of the
Force II (PotF2) figs came out, I got really caught up in trying to get all of
them and all the vehicles, etc.  When the Micro Machines "Action Fleet" toys
started coming out, I bought all of those, too.  As I started to notice how
much room the big vehicles took up, I bought fewer of them, and stopped, but
continued to buy most of the figs and the Action Fleet toys.

As soon as I heard about the Lego versions, I stopped completely.  Lego might
not get every dollar I would have otherwise spent on Hasbro (because there's
less Lego), but they did cause Hasbro to lose the money, and that's all Hasbro
cares about.

It is entirely possible that a minifig pack- or worse, *many* minifig packs-
would have the same effect, eating away at the market share.  There are
probably collectors who would opt for a pack of, say, main characters, or a
5-pack of Stormtroopers, rather than the added cost (the minifig pack would
probably cost the same as a *single* Hasbro fig) and lessened space.  All you
need to do is look at eBay to see that there *are* people who want a Boba Fett
'fig enough to pay $10 for it alone, *without* the other parts in Slave I!  How
many more people would buy a box with Boba Fett, Darth Vader, a couple of
random Imperial Officers, and maybe another bounty hunter for $6?  How many of
*those* people would also stop buying Hasbro 'figs at $6 *each*?

I think that a series of minifig packs has a great potential to really wound
Hasbro's action figure sales.

I would have to totally disagree with Christopher on this one! Hasbro's Action Figures are completely different then Lego's mini figures. The lego are somewhat comical, whereas, the Kenner line is meant to be more articulate, deatiled, and accurate (...) (24 years ago, 4-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

(...) It might have something to do with the LEGO Star Wars toys being great *toys*, and not just great *Star Wars* toys. I wouldn't buy Hasbro junk, except *maybe* for their Star Wars junk. LEGO, OTOH, I buy a lot of that. What's that? You think (...) (24 years ago, 4-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)

I tend to agree with you Kevin. Once a minifig is clasiified as a condtruction toy and not an action figure then it shouldn't matter whether it is part of a big set or a small set. As an aside...while there is obviously some competition between (...) (24 years ago, 3-Apr-00, to lugnet.starwars)
