Check out your 2000 LEGO catalog. It appears the aforementioned plate is a
bit off on its hinge, and is a bit crooked in the picture. It's easier to
see in the
foldout spread in the center (Insert naughty magazine joke here: Lego fan
tilts catalog sideways and unfolds, drooling)
