  No new space sets?

What? No new non-Star Wars Space set for 2000? This would be 2 years running that there hasn't been (non-Star Wars) Space sets. Granted, the last 2 themes (Aliens, Insectoids) weren't too great, but I hope they aren't discontinuing the line. There (...) (25 years ago, 16-Nov-99, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) There is something in the starwars licence that forbids TLG from making other space sets while they are making starwars sets. -- Jonathan Wilson wilsonj@xoommail.com (URL) (25 years ago, 16-Nov-99, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Do we have definite information about this, or is it only speculation? I've heard this rumor many times before on the newsgroups, but as far as I remember, noone has claimed to know for sure that this is so. Of course, if a rumor hangs around (...) (25 years ago, 16-Nov-99, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) selling good models. Now, TLG's only concern is money and exploiting trends! Will they ever again be how they were during the Classic Space line?! Z (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Wow. You sure have a big Unhappy about LEGO...Don't you think you might be over-reacting a bit? James (URL) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) This gives me some amusement because you could see the introduction of the minifigure and the first line of "classic space" as just being "concerned with making money and exploiting trends" as well. Star Wars was the rage by the (...) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Well actually, as far as we know, that's just a rumor. (...) Probably not exactly the same, no. (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Okay, so maybe I didn't have the right info. At least they had good intent with Blacktron 1 and Spyrius. Fat chance finding a Star Wars set that good! (...) interesting when you post an angry message. So fun to watch people actually try to (...) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Have you looked at a the Star Wars sets? I'd say that they're better than Spyrius and perhaps even Blacktron. (...) This isn't a very nice idea. People tend to take you seriously here, unless there's a reason not too. (And of course, if you (...) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) I don't remember this falling out "rumor" category into "fact" category. The first person who said this, remind us why. LEGO didn't seem to have a problem introducing Insectoid sets the same year as the Star Wars sets, or the new town (...) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Insectoids was running out the 2 year period. Spaceoprt is not space. Rock raiders is not space. The restriction sepcially restricts "spaceships" such as those found in the true space themes. -- Jonathan Wilson wilsonj@xoommail.com (URL) (25 years ago, 7-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Perhaps RTL started it; someone posts a message, which is misread, etc. BTW, I totally disapprove Insectoids, Rock Raiders, and Arctic. They suck! Star Wars is far more promising, as it's one of the few unjuniorized themes, according to posted (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) problem with SW is that it doesn't have sufficient amounts of transparent stuff. It barely has any at all! I can see how I could get enough opaque stuff [except for red. Where do I get good parts in that color?] So how do I get my favorite (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) You could stop whining and look at auctions or pages which sell pieces. Just a thought, you don't have to use it. Sure, Star Wars is a good product. And Space is a really cool theme to have around. I'm dissappointed that they aren't making it (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) I agree totally. Its hard to take these terribly emotional inquisitive posts seriously anyways. Much less a whole barrage of them. -Tim (URL) timcourtne ICQ: 23951114 (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Definitely; that's what I do. (...) You can. There are a few SW-specific bits (including the minifigs, of course) but the vast majority are generic space parts. (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Okay, what's his address? Snail or e-mail, I don't care which one [why do I get the idea I'm asking a really stupid question?]. Z (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) They are not spaceships. Does nasa call the space shuttle a spaceship? I think not. -- Jonathan Wilson wilsonj@xoommail.com (URL) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Yup - I realized that seconds after I posted it, but didn't have time to go and cancel and edit my message. Sorry! (...) What restriction? Where did we hear about this? Why were the Spaceport spaceships not covered? -- jthompson@esker.com (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Oh yes, they are good for parts. Go hit Target (if there's one in your area) TODAY and see if you can find any Star Wars sets on sale. They seem to be selling off the Y-wing and Tie set for about 40% off, and the Gungun Sub and Sith (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

Matthew already responded to this, but ... (...) Patrick, this is *way* uncool. It's called trolling or posting flame-bait - posting something inflammatory or provocative just for the pleasure of watching other people get upset. Trolls (people who (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) So, since Paramount calls THEIR spaceships "starships" rather than "spaceships" it would be OK for LEGO to license the Star Trek universe and sell models of the Enterprise? Space shuttles fly thru space. I'd call them spaceships, even if NASA (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) I don't buy it. I think it far more likely that Lego has _decided_ that Star Wars is filling the role of a space theme. (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)

  Re: No new space sets?

(...) Until I understand where the licensing-prevents-L...m-selling- non-star-wars-spaceships came from, that is my theory as well. -- jthompson@esker.com "Float on a river, forever and ever, Emily" (25 years ago, 9-Jan-00, to lugnet.space)
