Hello all,

I've got my first "real" space Moc under my belt. I've built space before,
but this is my first cool space vehicle or so I think. ;^)

I present the HLAATV or "T-24 Boar"

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=39734

For the longest time I've wanted to build a dropship. I've marvelled at
Mladen's work as well as Mark Sandlinds, but never been able to complete one
of my own, not for lack of trying though - the number of failed attempts
have been many.

The boar in my side universe, this replaces the V-22 Osprey as a VTOL
transport craft. The V-22 was a fantastic vehicle, although it lacked
substantial weaponry, making it an easy target unless escorted by other
aircraft. The boar not only is a transport vehicle, able to carry up to 24
troops or 2 light vehicles, but also a heavily armed and armoured fighting
platform. The armor around the cockpit is thin, able to only to sustain fire
from up to 7.62 mm weaponry, but the armor surrounding the main cargo bay,
is able to withstand the hit of an rpg or up to roughly 40-50 mm machine gun
fire, making it perfect for low flying insertion and extraction missions.

It's main cannon mounted on the nose is 30 mm and carries 1250 rounds, the
chain gun below is a double barrelled 30 mm chain gun with 4659 rounds
onboard. It's main defense and offense though are the twin MRDS (Multiple
Rocket Delivery System(s)) mounted on the stub wings near the nose, these
can deliver up to 240 rockets per minute per unit. Each rocket is 30 mm. The
rockets are stored in the cylindrical canisters beside the cockpit. The Boar
can hold up to 1014 rockets in total.

Defensive countermeasures are stored and launched from the singtips, as well
as the tail wings. A radar jamming pod is located underneath the left front
area of the vehicle. Infared imagers are under each wing, these locate and
identify targets for the corresponding rocket launchers.

Wow that's the first time I've given an in depth tech report thing for
something I've made. =^P

Pardon the really really small vertical thrusters, by the time I got that
far, my collection was completely depleted, that was about all I could come
up with that didn't look terrible.

I also have two small vehicles, The
"Bulldog" and the "Light Personnel Transport". But who cares about tech
write ups for these I'm tired of writing.

Inspiration for the Boar came mainly from the pellican dropship from Halo.

The inspiration for the Bulldog came from the Warthog from Halo as well.

Alrighty, I don't think I've missed anything. I promise better pictures next
time, I'm still learning the ins and outs of my new camera.

Lemme know what you think!

(...) SNIP (...) WOW! the dropship rocks! Totally conveys the thick armored super tough ship look. and it looks like it would be fun to fly too. I think it would be cool for the angled supports on either side of the cockpit to be yellow, like double (...) (22 years ago, 9-Apr-03, to lugnet.space)

One thing is for sure...you wouldn't want the Boar landing in your front yard. Man, what a bruiser. Often dropships are long an lean...an interesting take to go the other way and make it more bulky. It makes sense...able to take a lot of fire and (...) (22 years ago, 9-Apr-03, to lugnet.space)

Hi there, Geordan, First up you have an excellent design concept on the Boar. I love the area around the cokpit with the intakes and rocket cannisters, ets. The rocket pods are also quite cool. I hate to be picky but I found the body of the thing a (...) (22 years ago, 9-Apr-03, to lugnet.space)

(...) Wow! That is C-O-O-L... Like others have said, the bulkiness of this craft is an awesome departure from the slender and winged troop carriers we're so accustomed to seeing. Really well done Geordan. I give you major props for the creativity (...) (22 years ago, 10-Apr-03, to lugnet.space)

(...) What's up Geordan? (...) YES! My second favorite thing, dropships! To quote you, this guy can take it, give it, and bring it... a beating that is. The chunkyness of this guy works very well. Retractable weapons are awesome, I think, and you (...) (22 years ago, 22-Apr-03, to lugnet.space)
