My parents never really got it, nor liked it. I don't think most parents,
unless they happen to be sci-fi fans, would particularly enjoy BR. It
didn't do very well in theaters when it was released, either.

I held off on reading certain classic novels until I felt certain I would
be able to appreciate them. But I think one's appreciation of Blade Runner
is more based upon interests and personality than anything.

The book was undoubtably good...but what really made the movie shine was
the incredible setting. I would argue that the movie was better than the
book, and should be seen first.
