  lego changed molds (?)

k i have an innaresting question/fact... i own multiple molded versions of the lego piece that is 2x1 plate w/ two rods (1 on each side) one version: the rods are short and they are not centered on the plate vertically other version: the rods have (...)   Re: lego changed molds / re-engineered parts, part II

(...) I'm totally at a loss for what it is you're talking about. Is there a picture in the inventory db? Also: the SW blaster cannon has changed for 2002; the muzzle can now take an axle, whereas the older version could not. I seem to recall that (...)   Re: lego changed molds / re-engineered parts, part II

He's talking about the 1x2 "laser" piece with the 2 bars on it. The bars on the older version were inline with the plate and had rounded ends. Thats also great news about the SW blaster cannons. I wish they had done that in the beginning. To bad I (...) (23 years ago, 23-Feb-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.general)

Re: lego changed molds / re-engineered parts, part II

(...) I believe he's referring to parts: 3839a Plate 1 x 2 with Handles Type 1 3839b Plate 1 x 2 with Handles Type 2 Henry (23 years ago, 23-Feb-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.general)

Re: lego changed molds / re-engineered parts, part II

(...) Ah. Okay. I've noticed that too. I think it has something to do with the ability to mount them in tighter spaces; I've noticed that the newer sort have bars exactly 2 studs long, and if you put the plate on another plate over an even larger (...) (...) Don't know anything on why and how etc. but the partnumbers are 3839a and 3839b. (URL) (23 years ago, 24-Feb-02, to lugnet.space)

  Re: lego changed molds (?)

I know others know much, much more on this subject than me, however; Lots of parts have had minor changes over the years. Take a look at any given piece from years ago and now and you should notice a few things. I just grabbed an inverted 2x2 slope (...) (23 years ago, 24-Feb-02, to lugnet.space)

  Re: lego changed molds (?)

(...) The thinner front studs make it possible to insert a peg into them, and also reduce the amount of ABS needed (thus reducing cost). The ribbing is common in a lot of newer bricks, and is probably also to reduce cost. (...) you wash them in (...) (23 years ago, 24-Feb-02, to lugnet.space)

Re: lego changed molds / re-engineered parts, part II

(...) I believe you have that detail backwards here. The older ones were in line height-wise. Not that it matters in this particular case- either one fits fine in the arrangement you describe. The version of this piece that has longer and higher (...) (23 years ago, 25-Feb-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.general)

Re: lego changed molds / re-engineered parts, part II

(...) I think you may be right. Just so we know what we're all talking about, I found the page on peeron.com that lists the parts in question: (URL) "laser" piece we are talking about is this: 3839 - Plate 1 x 2 with Handles (Moved to 3839b) - (Ref) (...)   Re: another change

(...) This was common until the mid-late '80's, I think. (23 years ago, 26-Feb-02, to lugnet.space)

(...) used to make the part codes, see (URL). That FAQ was written for LDraw part authors, but amongst the other questions, it addresses the coding issue. Steve (23 years ago, 26-Feb-02, to lugnet.space)
