I tested with the same installation, IR tower & rcx module with another
laptop (by Dell) built with infrared port, wireless network card, but with
no bluetooth built in. They work fine... The problem is more and more
leaning over to hardware specific problem... ie. something different about
toshiba Satellite P25-series!!!???
Since the device manager claims the usb device (the tower) is working
properly, I can't get support help from Toshiba... But then, I called up the
Pitsco tech support, no use there either!
Does anyone know of any utlity that I can use to further debug this?
As the tower tries to interact with the rcx, it even hangs even I picked the
"usb#1" from the selection. (note that pitso stated that only selecting
"autoselect" would cause the hanging problem)
Then, I hooked a usb-to-serial converter targus hub and tested with a serial
IR Tower. Again, according to device manager, the device is working
properly. Then, as I selected the proper com port to download the firmware,
it at least did not hang my box. The tower's green light was on, but still
fail to communicate with the rcx. Error Response said ..."NO RCX RESPONSE
(7 bytes read on port 2)... 7 bytes read? It probably is somekind of
initail handshaking protocol. I just wish the robolab would tell me more
technical details, or provide some utilities for lower level debugging...
As always, suggestion and comment will be greatly appreciated!
