I have dug around a bit on my computer and I managed to duplicate your problem.
You can do a make realclean
from the demo directory but if you do it from the brickOS root directory the
files required by BricxCC aren't there anymore.

As I said before, I am able to use brickOS under cygwin.
Does this mean that I have files required by brickOS?

I guess you don't mean that I have to run the two commands:
   make realclean
   make
(Of course I did in vain.)

1. What version of brickos do you have installed? (cat VERSION from the brickos
root directory and post the output)

2. What do you mean by "Of course I did in vain."?  Be as precise as possible in
your answer.  With a correctly installed copy of brickos you ought to be able to
type make realclean and make from the brickos install directory at a standard
windows command prompt and both commands should successfully run.

3. When you say you are able to use brickOS under cygwin what do you mean
precisely?  Can you write your own makefiles like the one generated by BricxCC
and compile and download your own programs using it (i.e., your own makefile)?

4. Can you use brickOS from a standard windows command prompt without starting
the BASH shell?  If not, what output do you get when you try to do so?

5. Do you have any idea why make would be complaining on your computer about not
knowing how to create a .lx file?  It should know how to do so if it can load
Makefile.user and if the contents of Makefile.user are correct.
