Re: USB vs Serial Tower Response Time

Dick, thanks for posting this information. I have some USB code I need to do some more work on and this should prove very useful! Mark (21 years ago, 22-Aug-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

(...) Indeed, you probably had something wrong there: I checked the battery of a serial tower I didn't use for a very long time, it was still fully charged. Philo (20 years ago, 29-Dec-04, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, FTX)

  BricxCC & fast firmware download

I've had a report that fast firmware downloading doesn't work with the latest release of BricxCC (either tower). In my tests, with an RCX 1.0 brick plugged in, low ambient light, short distances from the USB tower, and all the firmwares I have (...) (21 years ago, 3-Nov-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

RCX3 - Can extra hardware functionality be added?

Having had a good look inside my RCX, I'm thinking seriously about what is really possible in the same space envelope, whether extra ports or functions could be added for RCX3. I think it's useful for us to know what's inside the RCX, especially if (...) (20 years ago, 21-Jan-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.rcx)

IR tower problems on a laptop with NQC

I have a used Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop that is old enough to have a serial port. I'm trying to use a serial port IR tower to program an RCX and am having problems. When I plug in the tower the green light turns on immediately, which AFAIK is not (...) (18 years ago, 9-Mar-07, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc, FTX)

  Re: 1.0 brick not responding

(...) Generally, that means the IR tower is working. It's possible the tower has become broken, while it sat in a closet, but that's not very likely. So, knowing things worked before, you may be forgetting something. Make sure the memory is cleared. (...) (19 years ago, 13-Sep-05, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: LNPd with USB Tower - success?

Hi, lnpd is a very old program and has several problems, it does not support the protocol used by brickOS, lacks support for the USB tower and may lose packets as soon as they get too large (>8 bytes or so).   Re: Battery voltage available within NQC?

(...) If you REALLY wanted to do this, you could use the bytecode to broadcast the battery information to the IR tower and have a service running on the PC which would recieve the battery message and then send an appropriate message back to the RCX. (...) Assuming packets without large internal gaps, we could employ a timeout to wait for a packet transmission of unknown protocol type to end.
