Decoding the LEGO IR remote control

Hello All - - I'm interested in using a LEGO IR remote control to control other things besides the RCX. Has anyone here done any PIC development along these lines? I would like to use a PIC to decode the output of a Sharp GP1U581Y and convert the 16 (...) (27 years ago, 17-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Version 1.5

I have seen a Mindstorm box here in the USA for version 1.5 apart from 10 less pieces and a recomendation for a 166Mz PC what is the diffference. I here there are lot of bug fixes is this in the PC software or the RCX brick. I have seen coments of a (...) (27 years ago, 15-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: RCX 'brick connectors' and how-they-work??

On the subject of making connector blocks, I have been very successful with taking the conductor strips you get as a S@H service pack, hacking two squares out, slotting one edge of each of the 2x2s, soldering wires to that side, slotting the inside (...)   Re: RCX 'brick connectors' and how-they-work??

Thanks, Jonathan && Others... I'll look at the patent. With all the 'clones' out there, is it likely that Lego would complain if someone made compatible-but-not- identical connectors?? How do they handle the Clone Market?? Couple of questions, (...) (27 years ago, 14-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  RCX as a universal remote?

Here's a thought: You're in the bedroom with your trusty RCX on the floor. You're watching TV, but the tuner is in another room. You point your remote at your RCX, change channels, and the RCX scurries out of the room, off to repeat the IR command (...) (27 years ago, 13-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: RCX Currnet Rating?: And info on Internals??

Kekoa, Many Thanks for your tireless digging. I have seen a lot of very interesting stuff you have unearthed. I think that more is often learned about Engineering by 'Reverse Engineering' than 'forward'! Years ago I used to get tons of old IBM (...) (27 years ago, 12-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: RCX Currnet Rating?: And info on Internals??

(...) It is commonly believed that the RCX contains a full rectifier, so if you supplied AC, that would work, but more importantly, if you supplied either polarity of DC, that would work also. The conversion to AC also requires a sufficiently large (...) (27 years ago, 12-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: RCX Currnet Rating?: And info on Internals??

I'm still not clear on exactly what the RCX enternal-power input will accept. Can anyone tell us what the internals really are?? If I view the RCX power connector closely, I read: 9-12V~ (nine dash one two Vee tilde) I would interpret that to mean: (...) (27 years ago, 12-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

RE: Help with connecting pyroelectric sensor

(...) I read the sheet as saying the MINIMUM load is 125K, and the block diagram indicates a buffered output. It would be a good idea to buffer the output, but may not be strictly necessary. The bit about the reference being 20uA capable is correct, (...) (27 years ago, 8-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

RE: Help with connecting pyroelectric sensor

Here's the link to the pyro sensor (URL) The schematic indicates that the reference moves relative to the output... I think the reference and output terminals are mislabelled. Given that they are mislabelled... The reference output has a 20uA max (...) (27 years ago, 7-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: RCX Currnet Rating?

Yes it is slow, if you count 1/2 a second slow, but not horrible. The big problem comes with control. Finding neutral again. NQC to the rescue. I find its better for this application than the RIS software. More open for creating servo control loops. (...) (27 years ago, 6-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: RCX Currnet Rating?

You mean you use the red motor/switch combination as a sort of 'electronic' fuse? Oh, right. While I'm typing I suddenly see what you mean. You use an external power supply for the motors. Clever. Isn't the switching a little slow using the (...) (27 years ago, 5-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: RCX Currnet Rating?

The best way to avoid high current running thru the brick is to control a small red motor which drives one of the polarity switches which is hooked up to a battery pack and that in turn runs the main motors. We had this problem at the LEGO (...) (27 years ago, 5-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: RCX Currnet Rating?

MJ, The RCX itself does not need a lot of power. However, if you're going to run 2 motors off each output port (a total of 6), 200 mA won't be enough. I expect the motors to draw at least 100 mA each. Even more when stalled. Maximum power to be (...) (27 years ago, 5-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: RCX Currnet Rating?

  RCX Currnet Rating?

Hi, I have a 9V adapter that will fit the RCX. It has a current rating of 200mA. What is the current rating for ther RCX? I have seen adapters that are rated from 100mA up to 800mA. Thx...MJ (27 years ago, 4-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: RCX Battery Source

my rcx works fine with a universal ac to dc wall outlet. it has a switch to change the voltage. i've got it set at 9v and it operates at 800mA max. i figured 6 batteries x 1.5v =9v. i think it was originally for a keyboard (musical instrument, not (...)   RCX Battery Source

Hi All, My old cellular "bag-phone" died a while back and I replaced it with a nice teeny tiny PCS phone. I had bought the 12V 2.3Ah sealed lead battery as an option with the original phone. It is WAY smaller than the 4Ah monsters I'm using for (...) (27 years ago, 25-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
