Just to make my tiny contribution to the Handy Board community, I decided to convert the menu.c file for the 6.270 board for use on the Handy Board. The 6.270 2.21 board set was gratuitously received on May 8th; although the original email query was sent out 11/28/95 and the check sent out on 12/5/95. We've had a debate on this issue a couple of times on the rec.models.rc.air newsgroup a couple times recently (check out www.dejanews.com) and the consensus seemed to be that parallel packs should not be a problem. (...) Yes. My problem is that my motors draw somewhere around 2 amps average, and the AA pack I have is rated at 600mAh. Don't do this. First off, you won't get more current, nicads already can deliver gobs of current, enough to be dangerous. You want more amp-hours, not more instantaneous amperage. (...) This is generally not a problem. If you get a 7.2v strip of C-cells from a hobby store (this is a 5 cell battery) they can deliver about 150 amps for a short while. Ni-cads have really low internal resistance. If the two packs start off at different levels of charge, you may have a problem with lots of current flowing between the packs when you first connect them. Does anyone know anything about connecting Ni-Cad packs in parallel to get more current? I'm trying to connect two 6V packs in parallel for driving my motors and sonar, and I also need to make a 4.8 tap to drive a servo. I'm not sure how Ni-Cads in (...) (...) The rated total is 1 amp. The HB itself draws 100 to 200 mA? I'm not sure, I haven't measured it exactly. Since the HB's battery is 9.6v, and the output voltage of the regulator is 5v, the thing drops 4.6v, and at 600 to 700 mA of current that (...) (28 years ago, 6-May-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Hello all, I'm working with a friend of mine in the Robotics lab at the UofM to try to interface a Miniboard with a Handyboard through the SPI bus. Does anyone know the current rating on the 5V voltage regulator located next to the power switch? I am using a bunch of IR sensors, and am supplying power to them via the +5 V bus, but my VR seems to be getting quite hot. The sensors draw around (...)
