  IC read timer instruction !

I want to know if there is a special IC instruction to read the system timer, or just matter of read the whats in the address $100E (high byte) and $100F (low byte). Thanx. Hachemi (28 years ago, 18-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Extension Board

I want an extension board for the HB. I am planning an arm on my bot. Hopefully with 4 or 5 degrees of freedom so I need more servo ports. Are there any beta units available? What is the progress on the production units? Does anyone have any first (...) (28 years ago, 18-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: HC11E1 or HC11A1

(...) The E1 will work fine. It is officially supported by all of the HB software. See the IC manual for more details. -f (28 years ago, 17-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  HC11E1 or HC11A1

I was planning on using a HC11E1 on the handyboard instead of the HC11A1, other than twice the internal RAM it looks to be the same part. Is there any reason the E1 part won't work?   Re: problem with PCI PowerMacs?

(...) Yup. I use my 7200/75 as my only robot development station, and love it. Not a single problem. As11_ic works great, all beat versions of IC work great, even the older version 2 of IC works great. My handyboard couldn't be happier. (except if (...)   Re: Solar Ni-Cad Charging

(...) I found a reference to the need to pull the solar cell out of the charging circuit when in darkness - is this necessary? Also, how should I select a diode for this purpose? Sean Cunningham MSI Consulting Group www.msiconsulting.com (28 years ago, 17-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Solar Ni-Cad Charging

Attach leads to same place the charger goes. + to +, - to -. Don't forget the diode. To be safe, monitor the current when the batteries are fully charged. Should not be more than 50ma. It is a good idea to cycle the nicad's about once a month. That (...) (28 years ago, 17-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  problem with PCI PowerMacs?

Has anyone tried the IC software (freeware or newtonlabs beta) with a PCI PowerMac? I'm in touch with someone who is having trouble, and I wonder if we can confirm a problem. Thanks, Fred (28 years ago, 17-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Handy Board "To Do List"

Hi Fred, I noticed the To Do list on the HB page and just wanted to mention a couple of things: 1) The shaft encoders from the IC distribution work without modification. I've been using encoders.icb and encoders.c successfully. I haven't tested (...) (28 years ago, 17-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

new stuff on HB web site

Greetings HB users, I thought people might want to know about new stuff on the HB web site -- * printed hardcopy docs of the HB assembly pages. much nicer than printing out the web pages. available as a PS file (level II only) or a PDF file. * web (...)   Solar Ni-Cad Charging

I would like my robot to carry a solar cell for battery recharging. I have not been able to locate a reference for any gotcha's with this plan, so here goes: I quote from the assembly manual: [start quote] The power supply provides between 12 and 15 (...)   Re: TCNT address

(...) It is a 6811 internal register, at addresses $100e (high byte) to $100f (low byte). You should get the Motorola 6811 docs if you are going to be working with this register.   Polaroid Sonar Software and Connection Guide

I've recieved several questions requesting the following info: The software and README connection guide was written by a guy named Kent. I don't have his last name with me. (Sorry Kent).   TCNT address

Hi everybody, I am windering if the system timer register TCNT is one of the IC global variable or we should declare it, and if so whats the address of this register. My second question is about the HB pins 0 to 15, can anyone tell me where I can (...) (28 years ago, 16-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Sonar sensitivity to 'Curtains'

I gave my Polaroid Sonar the curtain test and it passed. Someone suggested that Sonar could not see curtains. Not only does it see curtains, it also sees a towel, a handkerchief, a kleenex, and, get this, a piece of free hanging string. My bot is (...)   RE: h-bridges, current info

The answer is yes, but it isn't as useful. BJTs (Bipolar Junction Transistors) are current based devices, if you look at the 'base' input to the transistor as a pipe, for NPN devices there needs to be current flowing "into" the base for them to turn (...)   RE: High current motors

Jeff is correct, after looking at the schematics for the motor driver my circuit won't work. You will have to wire two sides of the motor driver output to the 2907's with back to back diodes. I'll draw up a schematic and post it. (In my original (...) (28 years ago, 15-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  RE: Ultrasound Range-Finding

(...) The IR sensors on the robot I built have an effective range of about 4 feet. The "downside" of IR sensors are that they are much more difficult to scale in terms of distance.
