  Re: NiMH batteries?

(...) NiMh batteries do not have a memory but they do discharge faster when sitting unplugged. In my Thinkpad 750 (for which I have one NiCd and two NiMh batteries) the NiCd looses < 5% of its charge overnight and the NiMh batteries loose around 15% (...)   Walker Invasion #2

More and more people are building walker robots each week. These web sites can help you become one of them soon. Steven Bolt just posted a note about his "Spider" robot on the BEAM list. His web site shows the eight-leg robot and includes (...) (27 years ago, 16-Jun-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: NiMH batteries?

(...) Well, that is one of the great benefits of NiMH batteries is that they can be charged without ever having to completely cycle them. They are really convienient in Cel phones since you can use a trickle or 'zap' type charge on them no matter (...) (27 years ago, 16-Jun-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: NiMH batteries?

(...) When I bought a mobile phone (or cellular if you like), the sales guy said that the NiMH didn't suffer from the memory effect like NiCad batteries do. But that was from a sales person - not necessarily reliabe info! cheers chris (27 years ago, 16-Jun-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Electrostatic cooling of robots

The Yuma proving grounds, in Arizona, has proven to be a hostile environment for robots. In his UXO detection paper, Mark W. Tilden, researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory, describes the area: The Yuma terrain is excessively hot during the day (...) (27 years ago, 15-Jun-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: stacked L293's

It sounds like you have some kind of short in your L293B/D circuit. Do you have any single chips you can try separately? This method of stacking chips does often work, but you might have blown one, and then the two of them are fighting each other. (...) (27 years ago, 14-Jun-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  RE: NiMH batteries?

i'm sure they do, but the memory effect can be fixed and can be used to your advantage in some cases... you may want to talk to people all a local hobby store... esp. if they have a track.... i never learned the memory stuff, being into gas trucks, (...)   Compiling in MS-DOS

  Sensor Basics

Robots depend upon sensors to give them information about the "real world." These sensors detect a value, convert it to a measureable form, and scale its range. A Phototransistor, for example, converts light intensity into fluctuations of electrical (...) (27 years ago, 13-Jun-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  NiMH batteries?

Hi, I just came accross a 7.2volt (6 cell) NiMH battery. I think it's from a cell phone. My questions are: 1- can they be low current charged just like nicads? 2- can they deliver gobs o' current like nicads? 3- has anyone used them with a (...)   Handy Board - Interface/Charger Board

Hi, I have started a project to build a Handy Board and everything was going fine until I started checking voltage in step 3.2.2. I get around +5 volts going from pin 2 of U16 to pin 7 of J9. Also, when checking pin 6 of U16 I'm getting nothing. I (...) (27 years ago, 12-Jun-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Walker Invasion

Walking robots are in vogue now. Moving step-by-step over uneven terrain--indoors and out, they seem to have a life of their own. They were once complicated devices that took many man-years to build and program. Now, students routinely build them (...) (27 years ago, 12-Jun-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
