I think I've seen four-legged walkers that turn the same way that a tank tread
vehicle turns -- walk the two legs on one side forward and the other side
backwards.  Not the most efficient way to do this, but possibly the easiest to
construct.

Just a thought...  No actual experience building walkers to back this up.
